I've never experienced a truly horrible Ghost Rider experience, because I've ridden it only three specific times. Once in 2000 (when it was still smoooooth), and then again in 2009 and 2013, both in the front row. It's very shaky and uncomfortable at points, but not a headache. I can't imagine what it's like in other rows.

A part of me wonders if Cedar will choose to retrack it or scrap it for the long-rumored giga coaster.

Here are a few stories of mine on Ghost Rider. I rode it in 2007 with a buddy of mine, got off the ride with a black eye because he chose to hold his hands up in the air and didn't have them under control. The last time I rode Ghost Rider, my seat belt broke off mid-ride.

The only way i'll ever ride ghost rider again is if they somehow add topper track and make it all twisty and inverted. It's a rare breed of woody and worth riding once but it's just too rough for my taste.

I think it's the fact that Triotech had worked with Cedar Fair and that while Guardian wasn't a hit with the fan community, it was with guests and has a changeability factor, not to mention they were able to manufacture it at such a low cost. I don't think it's as much of an excuse as it is a misguided choice. Theme park fans were much more lenient to the Log Ride and Mine Train do-overs due to the fact that Cedar Fair had set such low expectations as a brand (I mean, at least Six Flags would try sometimes), so even though the animatronics weren't Disney or Universal quality, they were advanced enough and the scenes were lit so well that it wasn't a big deal. Plus two aging classics got a pristine makeover that didn't insult the original. This is due to the fact that they handed the project to Garner Holt, who had a lot of experience and knew how to make things work.

If Cedar handed this ride off to the Goddard Group or Holt again, they would make it work within budget limitations. Instead, Knott's is trying to work alongside a designer who, if we have to be totally honest, excels in making the cheapest product possible that can still attract an audience. Unfortunately they must not think much of their audience (or have incredibly stupidly large egos) when they proclaimed to produce something that can stand along the giants. Everything we've seen so far is the contrary.

Saddest part is that this is the finale in a three-year plan of Ouimet's to brighten the family side of the park and make it a suitable companion to entice guests to spend a day of their Disneyland vacation over in Buena Park along with the locals. I have no doubt Cedar Fair is going to demand either a new coaster or a retrack of Ghost Rider in order to hinder itself against Potter at USH in 2016. Whatever Iron Reef is, we just have to live with it.

Although this will be the conclusion of Matt's three-year "family plan", I don't think they're going to finish Iron Reef and then go, " That's it, no more family rides!" Restoring the Calico rides and refreshing Camp Snoopy and Boardwalk have REALLY brought up attendance. Even if they go back to adding coasters, I think they'll add a new dark ride soon. Maybe they'll put in a Peanuts dark ride or bring back Knott's Bear-y Tales. They are bringing those characters out for the Boysendberry festival. I also think Boomerang would be an ideal location for KoD 2.0. They've proven that families are their biggest audience and will do another dark ride eventually. If they do add another coaster, I wouldn't be opposed to it. I'm hoping they add something like an Intamin Blitz or a Megalite. I think those kinds of coasters would be perfect for Knott's.

I don't think another dark ride is in the plans after Iron Reef, although I agree this isn't the end to the family rides. It is, however, the end of it being the main focus. I can imagine Cedar wants the next project to be thrill-related. After all, their most recent "thrill" ride isn't even there anymore!

That said, I'm not even sure if they will do anything in 2016 but with Potter coming, I can't imagine it'll be small. Most likely a coaster as "counter programming".

There is some small amount of hope in me that they will at least put some "stickers" on the vehicles to make them look less cheap Maybe some that show some steampunk equipment or something.

Went to the park today and got a picture of some Iron Reef progress. It's on my Instagram, but unfortunately, I don't know how to post it on here. They actually MADE SOME PROGRESS. They built some thin, steel arches that encompass the balcony. The arches go beyond it towards the ramp, meaning it will likely be an enclosed room. The two open holes you see on the building above Johnny Rocket's are apparently doorways to the indoor queue. You'll apparently go up the ramp into the first door and go out through the other, which happens to be inside one of the arches. I heard all sorts of hammering and sawing away in there. The Hollywoodland mural is still there though.

Lol the mural is still there!

They are really cutting close here it seems. April might see them just doing 24/7 work in this case.

Could you perchance link to the pics btw?

Wel, after lurking on a few sites, rumors are all pointing to there being virtually no sets whatsoever. It sounds like it's going to be ALL screens with MAYBE the physical appearance of the Roaring 20's sign. Pretty sad if you ask me. You'd think Knott's would know better.

I wonder if the budget got cut somewhere between September and now, because they were officially stating that there would be physical sets between the screen.

I believe the Roaring 20's sign will only be making an on screen appearance. I would be really surprised if they did cut out the physical sets, none of the screens are directly connected to each other. So they would just be large black walls if they had no sets. I wish Knott's would post some photos from the inside, Six Flags Over Texas has been posting pictures of the I side of their Justice League dark ride every week. I think it's safe to say Six Flags may be giving a better dark ride than Knott's...

This is what I heard too. If anything, I think the Roarin' 20's sign will be an on-screen Easter egg.

I do wish that Knott's would post some progress photos or a little construction update video. It would be great way to keep the buzz going.

^They probably won't post anything because there is nothing to look at. :(

I do think the old time machine from KoD could be restored and repurposed in the indoor queue somewhere.

They have added more steel to the facade/queue deck. I like the wavy design, almost a modern design of the original semi-circle coverings. Picture in the link from Knott's Network.
