Yesterday I went on the ride and the tail of the baby was working... I had never seen the tail moving and all... also the body was moving...

I'm pretty sure they moved it there for "useless water effects". Lol

No, the "hot springs" that they painted the lava on have always shot out water. The only useless water effects on Jurassic Park are the ones in the Ultrasaur lagoon, which had random watet squirting out of the bushes....

They actually turned off a hot spring if I recall correctly. They used to change the speaker by that location every month or so, so it definitely stuck in my mind after they decided to turn off that fountain altogether.

Yeah, I know the one you're talking about. I just wanted to point out that the "hot springs" aren't new water effects.

I have some general questions I am wondering if people here will know by any chance:

  • When did they first start doing Jurassic Park: In The Dark? Did it start during one of the Halloween Horror Nights, or something else? What year did they start doing that?

  • In 2001, the year JP3 came out, is when I think they also did something called "Jurassic Park: Summer Splash". It was the first time, to my understanding, that they added extra water effects during the summer. They seem to keep bringing it back every summer now, but mostly without any added info. on it at all. I guess I just want to know, was it really back in 2001 the first time they started this? And was this the same time they added the Spinosaur as a photo-op, or did he come at some later date (and which)?

  • When did they change the breaks on the ride, making the splashdown more controlled during whatever season they wanted?

  • When did they add the "Dino Playland" (wasn't it just this year)?

  • When did they add the Dilophosaurus (Spitter) to the end of the ride, as you are about to get off the boat?

So your first two questions I believe answer each other. The breaks were added around then, and that's when the water cannons were installed. Prior to that, the ride's splashdown always got you SOAKED so there was no need for all the crazy water effects build-up.

DinoPlay was added in late May 2012 due to the fact that all attractions on the lower lot were now thrill rides, with one that year (Transformers) having significantly long waits. Instead of trapping small children down there while the parents do child swap for hours and hours, USH built a playground to ease the woes, as well as upgrading the child switch rooms themselves. IMO, the playground was still much too small and on peak days would get insanely overcrowded. (this is with all three rooms at the attractions being packed to capacity as well)

Not sure about the spitter, I'm sure Adri has the answer.

Hope that helped!

If they could find another place to put a maze instead of JP's super extended queue, I'd love for them to put a spinner in that location.

Haha omg yes!!! But basically, yeah! They fit in the little play area, I think they could definitely fit in a little Spinner back there with a small enclosed path along the tram route. They could definitely make it work. I think it would he a super smart move to add the spinner in that location to help balance out the chils friendly attractions, especially down there! Dad and son go on JPRA and mommy can stay with the toddler can go play in the play area and ride the Flyers Spinner (providing they can find another place to put a maze, but IMO year round theme park school trump over HHN)

Before Dino Play came around, was that area just full of foliage? I forgot what it used to look like before the playground was put in.

Okay so:

1) Jurassic Park in the Dark started in 2006 to the best of my knowledge, at HHN. It's an HHN thing.

2) Summer Splash was in 2001 for the release of JP3, added cannons and 20% more water. Then in 2007 they began Wetter Than Ever with new effects that they turn on and off according to weather. This is the same year they added the final dilo at the last turn. I think spino came in 2001.

3) Brakes changed in 2001 I think.

4) Dino Play came in late 2012 season.

5) see 2

Quick question. I plan to visit USH in a few weeks. Does JP close during the cold months?

Nope. I ride it year round! It does close for annual refurb in late winter tho, so check the site. Usually in January after the grinchmas crowds.
