Lol ... the real trick was to hold the lab bar in place with your knee on the way up the lifts and at the bottom of drop 3.  Two reasons, 1) It wedged you in during the drop so you didn't flop around and 2) stopped the bar from (painfully) hitting you in the stomach from the sudden stop at the bottom or slamming down on you going up the lifts.

Mind you, I was always alone in my row when I did this.  Guest safety was always first.   :)

I'm always looking for the right trick to hold on to that darn safety bar for the drop. The very first time I went on JP, I was about 9 or 10 years old and I was pretty dang small. After the drop, my stomach was hurled against the safety bar and I couldn't even breathe. Freaked me out for a while.

Getting air was the fun part.  In all honesty, the lap bars aren't there to hold you in on the drop.  As long as you don't push away from the boat you will stay in it.  (I've caught a LOT of air time on that drop).  The lap bars are there to keep you in the boats on the flat parts of the ride.  I've seen way too many people try to squeeze out of them to get up to no good.  (Or maybe because they freaked out.  lol)  Either way, it's all about the physics and the illusion of danger where there is none.   ;)

Splash mountain has no safety bars, just remember that! It's a less severe drop, but its still a big one. I've had issues with other guests in my row crushing me with the bar to put it down on their tiny children, so I'm with you on the individual bar thing, but because of the nature of the attraction and the dispatch position there's no way to check the lap bar on the far left for safety. So group lap bar it is...

My advice for that drop if that ever happens again? Sit all the way back in the seat, put your head down, and wrap one arm around the top of the bar and the other around the bottom. Put as much of your upper body over the bar as you can and just hold on tight. Also put your feet under the little hold area below where people usually put their bags, to give yourself a bit of grip.

And Asuka, welcome! Glad to have you here! =)

Has anyone here, when you got on Jurassic Park: The Ride ever threw water at your friends?

I keep my hands in the boat for the entire adventure. I don't really feel like risking the loss of a limb.

I've flown out of my seat in Splash Mountain, as well. I was assigned the last seat in the flume which happens to be the largest, and for once I decided not to hold onto the handle bars, and I ended up grasping onto the vehicle itself to stop myself from gaining too much air.

As a LARGE guy in a small world I always laugh when a team member decides to sit a kids on my row(kid freaks so much they still try to pull the lap bar down and im like sorry buddy thats as far as it goes, then they always try again on the first ramp into the ride.LOL) Usally its a single rider so their on the end of the row which leaves them lots of space between between the bar and a huge gap at the end of the bar. I swear i think team members do that to really scare the kids. Beside if you know JP regulations it only takes 1 "click" of the locking mech to secure that entire row. Yes the drop is huge and yes u may get air time but unless that boat is falling out of the sky you wont fly out(thought rare things can happen). I my self have ridden this attraction with a big gap in the lap bar when i was younger and guess what im still here.

You are fine in the ride... since neither the boat nor you will reach terminal veolocity in the ride, there is no danger of air drag putting you and the boat at different speeds and you ending up getting down slower than your boat lol...  the inclination is not that severe... the defunct Perilious Plunge in Knott's Berry Farm is a different story since it was almost a 90° drop, so that's why you were strapped to the ride...

A guest actually ended up flying out of the boat and getting killed not too long after Perilous Plunge first opened. New restrictions were placed within the boat after that tragic event took place. To be honest, I had no idea Perilous Plunge closed until yesterday (when the new boardwalk rides first opened)!

Yeah... the problem with that one was the steep inclination it had... no wonder why he got killed

Well it was a lame idea of a ride in my opinion.

Actually it was awesome. It was steeper than JP and was taller... at one point you could swear the damn thing was off the rails... awesome!!! Too bad they removed it

The entire idea just seemed stupid to me. You go up, you go down. Ride's over. There's a lot more to Jurassic Park than an 80 foot drop.

I only ever truly enjoy rides that have a story of some kind (or at least an openness to it where you could make up your own story, like Pirates of the Caribbean). I think that is why I was never a fan of the Six Flags parks. They have "rollercoasters", which to me are not the same as a "ride". If that makes sense.

Oh boy, Six Flags. I think that park warrants its own thread, because it's an interesting park for sure. Haha.

But about the discussion with the lap bar: I've personally never had a problem with it and I've always had the hunch that it wasn't there for the drop but for the actual ride portion itself (as some of you have mentioned). My issue has always been the fact that they've been rather uncomfortable compared to the individual "sections" in Florida and (if I recall correctly) Japan. If anything, Hollywood adds to the thrill with the illusion that you could fall out. Florida and Japan are much more snug against your body.

Well not stupid... the feeling was just amazing... Six Flags has one like that as well. And we can all agree, and we have, that at the moment JP is just about the drop since the animatronics are so lame now... if they were in top form it would be a lot more than that. Yeah I know it's JP but still they need to show some love to the ride.If restored to its full glory, it's a one of a kind experience...

Miss Betty, we need your help! Assist me in emphasizing the fact that Jurassic Park has not been, is not, and will not be all about the drop!  :(

Hey you know the rules, you have to say my name three times for me to appear! =PBut yeah, totally agree, it's never been about the drop. Don't think anybody here would disagree with that! I would like to see a little more care taken with our ride here though. I admit that sometimes it looks a little shabby...though it pains me to say...

Kind of wishing they would redo the raptors. I think we have better technology now and could do it right this time.

Didn't say it should be all about the drop, it's just that the ride is in such bad shape that it really needs some love. I love JP but it needs some love. Please Universal!! Now that you've got more time since the movie is being delayed, give us a nice refurbishment for it to shine with the new movie...

Yeah, the ride was never about the drop for me either. Although I guess I am a bit biased to say that! ;) But again, it goes for any ride. I'll enjoy a ride like Pirates of the Caribbean anyday over something like Goliath at Six Flags. Maybe it's the storyteller in me. I like experiences that take me out of this world and put me in another. If I wanted to experience screaming and physical trauma in a vehicle, I'll just take a ride along the I-10 freeway! ;)

But in all seriousness, the current state of Jurassic Park- The Ride does still need a lot of work. It needs to at least be put back in it's former glory, which my video of it's premiere will clearly show just how great that former glory was.
