I like how Orlando's event gets more detailed/effort compared to San Diego due to it being down the street from Universal

Last year was so bad. I don't know if I could see myself giving it another chance this year.

yeah, i’m aware of that. my question is if the seaworld event is any good compared to the event operated by the same company in tampa, which has a decent reputation.

Ah okay. From what I've heard from friends that have attended & worked it, yes.

Like any event, it's good to give it a chance.

They literally ripped off a Mortal Kombat character...

Havik, a half-man, half-skeleton-type character, who loves chaos.

Keeping in mind, haven't been to Tampa since 2019, Sea World since 2022 or 2023 ...

Roughly comparable -- in fact, a lot of Orlando houses are recycled from Tampa. On the whole, I'd say Tampa has slightly better (and better staffed) houses, while scare-zones, which is where both events excel, are roughly even. Orlando has more bar spaces. Matter of taste but Tampa probably has the better nighttime coasters. Tampa also had a rip-off Bill & Ted show Orlando never got--Orlando shows aren't worth mentioning--but not sure if it's still going.

Honestly, if you're used to HHN, I'd stick to Orlando. Much easier to cut out halfway through the night and go back to Universal.

Went to HOS Tampa last year for the first time, and personally it blew Orlando completely out of the water. Far better houses with a bigger lineup; far better coasters with a bigger lineup. The Tampa park itself just fits HoS far more than SWO does. BGT is a mammoth of a park, and the foliage is decades old. So many more places for scare actors to hide naturally into the scenery.

Especially compared to USF, the zones were legitimately really solid last year. The size of BGT and the lower attendance compared to HHN leads to a far more spread out crowd, giving the performers a lot of space and freedom to create set pieces and generally just perform their scares. Every zone felt like a completely different thing from the last in a way that was really cool. SWO tries too hard to push the "Ocean" theming and a number of offerings feel same-y. The pathing doesn't work anywhere as well, and it's compressed into a decently reduced chunk of the park, meaning that the spread-out nature of BGT doesn't transfer over to SWO. Orlando just generally feels a ton more budget, and just overall not worth the asking price imo.

But that's my first time impression, and I walked out that night thinking that if I were to return this year, it wouldn't hit the same way. That's because a good bit of the appeal was it all being brand new to me. If you've been within the last few years, it likely won't hit quite as hard as it did for me. I still believe Tampa to be far, far superior though, and if it's been a little while, I'd say give BGT a shot.

Food was dreadful though. Gave me 2 small "chicken tenders" in a lil cardboard tray for $15. They were somehow simultaneously the dryest and slimiest pieces of "chicken" I've ever had lmao. Scariest part of the night. The show they had going on as I "ate" was a real stinker too. :lmao:

I’ve never been to BGT but have been to SWO… that’s pretty much the only solid argument I can make for spending a night there instead of hitting HHN again. Or sleeping. I’ve heard sleeping is cool.

I'd definitely recommend HOS Tampa in that case. If only for the coasters and the atmosphere. I went on Iron Gwazi for the first time during that HOS event night, and riding it late at night, illuminated only by dim red lights made it one of the craziest and scariest coaster experiences I've ever had. I think you'll generally enjoy the superior event offerings too!

Hoping to return this year (last went 2 years ago) and I felt like it was a decent event. The show was not great, which I found odd since most of SW's seasonal stage shows are fantastic. I know the show has a bit of a fanbase, but I couldn't connect to it. There's 2 houses that feel like close competitors to HHN, but the rest you can tell were made poorly.

I definitely do recommend this event if you want smaller queues for the coasters, treat it as a After Hours event lol

To be honest, last year I enjoyed SWO's haunt an almost equal amount to HHN (slightly less). I think the actors having more freedom and being able to actually speak to you adds more to my personal enjoyment of it. I think one night of SWO won't hurt, you can get it all done in about an hour or two. I think it's worth the trip!
Edit: Waters Edge Wellness Center was one of the best houses I think I have personally ever been through.

Last night I went to HOS Orlando for the first time since it’s inception. I’ve been to HOS Tampa before, but it’s been over 10 years since my last visit and it wasn’t enjoyable at all.

My wife, son, and I arrived right at opening, and entry went smoothly. Our first stop was the Collector’s Curse house, which I thought was pretty good overall. After that, we decided to ride Ice Breaker since it was posted as a 5-minute wait. I’ve lost nearly 80 pounds over the last year and wanted to ride it as a personal reward. The posted wait wasn’t accurate and was closer to being 20–25 minutes.

Afterwards, my son wanted a burger, so we grabbed food. The burger cost $20 had the same taste as one of those 7-Eleven microwaveable burgers.

Next, we tried Rave Yard, and that’s where things started going downhill. The line itself wasn’t long—only about three switchbacks—but the pulsing was egregious. They were sending only about 10 people in at a time and waiting nearly 5 minutes before sending the next group. What should have been a 20–25 minute wait was closer 45 minutes. Inside, staffing was minimal, so I’m not sure why they were holding the line so long.

We then headed to Farm 51. Before getting in line, I asked event ops for the wait time since they weren’t posted anywhere, and they told me it was an hour and a half. We decided to skip it for the time being and try something else.

At Water’s Edge, ops told us it was a 20-minute wait. The setup was similar—3–4 small switchbacks—but after waiting 15 minutes and barely moving, we realized it was going to be closer to 45 minutes to an hour. We bailed out of that line.

We stopped at Monster Stomp to take a break. The show might have been decent, but the singing wasn’t great and the audio on the mics was awful—either too quiet to hear them or so loud it overpowered the music.

On the bright side, Mako was a walk-on and fantastic. After that, we checked Widow’s Nest, but ops told us it was also over an hour. Finally, we rode Pipeline, another walk-on, which was great.

Here’s the bottom line: I’ve been going to HHN for years, so I’m used to waiting in lines. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that the park was nearly empty, yet the houses were being pulsed so poorly that it made the lines way too long. I even saw other guests confronting ops about it. In one case, I overheard ops respond that “they wanted to try something different this year.”

My guess is that they slowed everything down on to push people toward buying the front-of-line pass for $80 a piece. Unless they make some serious changes, I don’t see myself going back to Orlando—I’d rather make the drive to Tampa
