As I suspected, it looks like they didn't bother to really attempt a new take on the production design, which begs the rhetorical question: What is the point?

This has to be absolutely spectacular or it’s going to be a failure. There is no in-between.

HBO has gone down the shitter.

House of Dragon Season 2 was… Terrible. A complete slog. This looks like it will be similar.

They now stretch books out beyond the point of being entertaining. Something that was, ironically, popularized by deathly hallows 1/2.

Way down the rabbit hole discussion- but movies today at 28 mins longer on average than they were in the 90s. Just more useless scenes a drawn out moments of directors pretending they’re Tarantino.

I think they could be spectauclar AND a failure if the whole thing crashes after a few season. The original movies were minor miracles they came out with that continunity.

Also they already said they won't be making a season every year...so there will be gaps.

I love how back in the day they could make 24 episodes seasons...now we are down to 8-10 episode seasons...but some shows still can't deliver episodes every year with some exceptions like Fallout's TV show

Why on earth have they muted the colours? It should be bright and full of the whimsy and magic of the World. Instead it looks like we've jumped straight to the Deathly Hallows. I'm absolutely fed-up of Hollywood's obsession with a muted colour grade, this ain't Batman, put some goddamn colour in the World.

Even more....Actually in the 30's for most shows in the early years. And except for the big stars, most actors made scale, or just slightly above. Shows from mid Sept. to end of May....reruns or replacement shows in the summer. The TV series actors were warriors back then.

It's not really fair to compare filming 24 episodes of a sitcom against an 8-10 episode show full of visual effects. That alone is why it'll take a long time between seasons.

The first 7 seasons of GOT were coming out yearly

So its possible but I'm assuming its a cost thing...along with Fallout now pushing for yearly seasons

It can be done and like if they need one or two breaks...makes sense but if we are seeing most seasons 2 years apart that could be 14-16 years...thats just Insane

You'd think they want to Film season 1 and 2 back to back that would be 2026-2028

Season 3-4 next and that would 2030-2031

Season 5-6 2033-2034

Season 7 2036

Even with that...thats 10 years and they do need to film these before the kids get too old and also...like people pass away as well and hopefully aren't aiming to recast people

Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate had 20-26 shows per annual season back in the 90's through 10's. Decent level VFX for the time, lots of makeup, etc. It was top of the line for its age, just like this is. The walking dead was 16+ Episodes per annual season with a reasonably high production value, etc.

I don't know what's shifted in the TV production world, but I don't think visual effects is the limiting factor.

I actually dislike the 10 episode season format we have now. Not every story line is a hit, but with only 10 episodes I feel like showrunners and studios are afraid to gamble 10% of their season on a risky story line. Give me 20 episode seasons, with slightly less $$ per episode then roll the dice on 3-4 risky plot lines. For every one that flops, you'll hit a homer. The other 16 episodes are still your bread and butter that can carry the show through the flops.

Also, you gotta consider that there's a limited number of sets that everything in the books happen at. Once everything at the school, Diagon, Privet, the burrow, etc are built, they don't have to build them again. That alone should save a ton of time from season to season. Most of the characters won't need a lot of makeup. There will be a lot of visual effects with magic, but man, for 8 episode seasons, it just seems crazy they can't wrap one per year.

I also wonder how it will affect the pacing of the story

Like the first three books, there should be no issues but once we get to book 4-7 then you either cutting things or having to push books together in some seasons

But if we cut things..then whats the point?
I just hope the longer books can have longer seasons..like a season shouldn't always just be X episodes the story might demand more or less

Well, at least it'll probably give continued longevity and popularity to the Universal Potter lands. After all, they're the best lands in the world, and they are essential to the Universal parks success.
