It’s one of the laziest clues I’ve probably ever done, but 1) I am legitimately busy and 2) it’s been openly discussed for a while now.

Rumors aside, Sinners just makes sense.

It was the first major film event of last year and became the talk of the town for nearly two months. It shattered box office records, becoming the highest grossing original horror film of all time. If any proptery from last year deserves a slot at this year’s event, it’s Sinners.

On top of that, people still talk about the film to this day. Between is lasting cultural impact as people still repost scenes and quotes from the movie, and its monumental achievement of breaking the record for the most Oscar nominations ever, Sinners remains highly relevant, and I think it would draw a crowd every night.

100% agree. If it does win the Best Picture Oscar, that's bragging rights I don't think any other haunt will ever match.

That said, it seems tailor-made to be a house as well. Major set pieces in the film should translate brilliantly.

They also have a lot of costuming/set decor from Darkest Deal that can likely be reused. So win-win there.

Have we ever had an IP at the event that's won Oscars beyond costuming and special effects?

Sinners would be such a great house. Can make it feel so claustrophobic with the stuck in the barn setting.

There have been a handful of movies featured at HHN that were nominated for Oscars as well beyond costuming/effects:

Psycho (Director, Supporting Actress)
Exorcist (Director, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Picture)
Poltergeist (Score)
The Mummy (Sound)
Jurassic Park (Sound)

It’s a different conversation, but I expect Sinners will do well on the production side of things, and likely win original screenplay, but that’s it. It’s a great film, but there are better this year.

Hey Everyone! I'm sorry for being that annoying guy, but I have been very late to the game and I don't have time to look back at every page.... Can someone be kind enough to respond back to me with all the rumored houses for this year? And any other rumors going on, like Icons for the year?
Thanks in advance!

Sinners, Hellraiser, IT, Resident Evil if I am not mistaken, and Stranger Things 5 have been heavy spec. Then a heavy metal hell house featuring music from Ice Nine Kills as an original. (If I am not mistaken with any of these)

I'm worried about a Sinners house. I LOVED the movie, definitely in my Top 3 for the year, but it's been a while since I saw it so what I say might not be 100% accurate, but you get the idea. And keeping it as spoiler free as possible.

  • It's a great movie and very important to a lot of people, so people have preconceived notions about what it SHOULD have in it.
  • It's a LOOOOONG movie, and consolidating it down to 10 rooms will be a challenge. So much of the movie is exposition, establishing relationships, building dread, nuance, etc. Without all of that, it's From Dusk Til Dawn in Depression era Mississippi.
  • The first 60-90min don't really have anything "horror house" worthy. The house kinda has to be mostly confined to the Juke Joint. Something with the "child prodigy" then with the "singers/travelers" kicking stuff off, but then everything else is in or around the Juke Joint.
  • How do you get across identical twin brothers in a way that makes it clear, but isn't too silly. I guess a voice cue saying "things have sure gotten interesting since the twin brothers came back" or something similar, but if you miss the cue and aren't familiar with the movie, that could be really confusing.
  • Most action scenes involve big groups of people, not sure how that would translate to a house.
  • Not sure how much Universal would be willing to delve into the racist aspects...it is Florida in our current political climate after all.
  • The ending is so awesome, but don't see any way they'd touch that with a 10' pole.
  • How do you get the importance of the music to translate to the house in a single room that somehow involves at least one scare? The one amazing/crazy scene...I'm scared with how that might be tried. Thinking Eddie on the trailer from Stranger Things level.
  • The relationships are so important to the movie and play into some of the "action" scenes, but not sure how you incorporate that so it carries the weight of the movie scenes.
  • Fear that it's just going to be a vampires vs humans in a depression era juke joint and not much of anything else that made the movie so amazing and be disappointing to a lot of people.
The movie is so deep, nuanced, and long that consolidating it into a 10 room 3min walkthrough of a house scares me. There's sooooooo much they can't possibly include that is really important to the story that I'm worried. I know a lot of people who didn't see the movie in theaters, heard how amazing it was, caught it on streaming/video and while they liked it didn't think it lived up to the hype. Can only imagine months of speculation and build up for HHN and then the house not possibly being able to live up those expectations due the the sheer amount of important source material that can't possibly be included/done justice.

Most HHN houses are just simple horror, bad guy kills people in XYZ ways...go, rinse, and repeat. This IP both demands and deserves so much more.

If Sinners does happen, it’s going to be effectively my least anticipated IP. Part of that is to keep anticipation in check, but it’s mostly because I think a Sinners HOUSE will be largely one-note. I think the music is going to be the primary differentiator between rooms/scenes, and the music in haunts consistently gets lost in scares and screams.

Agreed with this, honestly the idea of a Sinners house makes me very nervous in general. I loved it dearly, was one of my top 3 movies of the year, but you could only really use about 50% of the material in the film. The first half is essentially a crime drama set in the south (also the stronger part of the movie, fight me), so you have like an hour of run time to work with. Beyond the logistical issues, I feel like using a movie that is so personal and thoughtful with its themes and ideas about music, the black community and art would be significantly cheapened when it's reduced to essentially From Dusk Till Dawn but in the south. They're going to have to be very careful with this one to pull it off.
