Hi there. It's a couple of things – see below from my interview with Lora Sauls:

"This year, we're basically saying we are the origin of horror. And that's a big statement, and I think really Universal could say, period, Universal is the origin of horror. And our first scare zone, as soon as you walk in the park, as soon as you go through those turnstiles, and you enter that conservatory, you're entering The Origins of Horror, where you're going to see some of our most primal fears, crows and bats and gargoyles and cats. Those are some very primal fears, right? People that don't even like horror are afraid of a black cat crossing their path. People that don't even go to horror movies are afraid of crows, are afraid of bats. So we're going back to those primal fears and having that origins of horror throughout the scare zones and throughout the park."

I had trouble with googling - do you have a link to your article by chance?

And yeah.. calling crows/cats "primal fears" is.. interesting lol.

I would love to see them play into the idea that Universal is LITERALLY the "origin of horror" though!

I’m really liking the way this year is lining up. There’s a lot of details and design elements coming in that are enjoyable to see, and I can’t wait to see it all come to life once the event starts.

Besides The Birds I personally am cautious around crows, if only to avoid somehow offending it and need to leave town for 17 years because it told all its friends about me.

They are awesome! But there are reasons to be wary of them too.

And that’s why I always carry a baggie with bread and nuts when I’m walking around the neighborhood.

It’s always good to bribe your corvid friends. Let them know that you care

(I’m not joking. I’m constantly feeding the crows)

Part of me wonders if the conservatory might be acting as a new origin for Adaru/Fear as well, considering the roots and vines growing through the park (and especially in Origins) look very similar to the Lantern's roots in Icons Captured. While they're tapped in the Lantern, lures artists in to create more horrors?

I’m keeping expectations low, but would be awesome to see vines back on the arches a la 2013. I don’t expect them to ever decorate the gates again, but if they did I feel like that’s the minimalistic approach we’d get, and it could fit this year.

Yeah, definitely keep your expectations low. That’s what I did last year, and I ended up enjoying all of the houses (except for Insidious). That one was the biggest disappointment. People kept saying how scary it was — and sure, compared to the other houses it was the scariest — but it definitely was not that scary, nor was it the greatest hhn house of all time, lol.

Hi. The interview is in the new issue of SFX, out now, but this bit is additional material that wasn't published.

With the UOAP/TM discount store shrinking, is it too late for any of that space to be used for something HHN related?

UOR does a pretty quick job at setting up merch displays, so maybe?

With a smaller Tribute Store this year, it could make sense for them to make a smaller HHN store elsewhere in the park - similar to All Hallow's Eve over in IOA!

They kind of already do in the main Universal gift shop by the entrance and in CityWalk. There's not really any limited options to get HHN merch, there are always booths setup within the park and citywalk.

Watch what you say about GenX, kid. "Dad rock"? Seriously? <walks away and slams the door>

The one I heard was half Fallout, half Terrifier(!) on WMMO. I guess it makes sense that they're not pushing FNAF on terrestrial FM radio since I'm the youngest person who still listens to it, but if they were going to include Jason in the campaign at all then 98.9 the Gen X 80s nostalgia dad rock station seems like the venue for him. Terrifier feels more like a 101.1 WJRR property to me
