The fact that people are buying Scream Early tickets at a $55 price point is wild..

Except note the Scream Early details don't explicitly say Stay-n-Scream. The rumor isn't there won't be any early entry, it's just that rather than S&S, it'd work more like Not-So-Scary where you're free to wander, eat shop and drink while regular guests are swept.

I also don't see any mention of getting Stay-n-Scream along with a regular day ticket like is usually offered.

If they do indeed do away with Stay and Scream, I wonder if it's something they'll announce/explain ahead of time.

Or.. everyone just finds out opening night lol

Knowing Universal Ops, we'll find out around 2 p.m. opening day when people look for the holding pen and it's not there. Though, if anything, should be a bit of relief to guests.

I wonder if they end up opening more houses if the free roam system for S&S is implemented.

I would bet yes (just makes sense to me), or at least allow people to queue up at every house. Altho I suppose it also depends on staff availability - especially scare actors who may also work the park during the day.

I mean, they're still going to have to stagger house openings. I don't see that changing at all from previous years.

My biggest question mark is still how they handle queues (when do they open, how early will people be allowed to line up outside of the queue, etc) if the free roam system is an actual thing this year.

They'd have to setup/open up at least the IP queues first.

Jason Universe/Fast and Furious is the easiest to open up first since it's a cleared queue already. The soundstage queues have to be built, but they can temporarily use the SS21 indoor queue/music plaza stage while they setup stuff. Heck, if they don't touch the Rockit station/queue, they can use that as well.

There will still be a small set of guests waiting to rope drop their favorite house, but the IPs are guaranteed to have queues.

Yeah, I was referring to the idea of the holding areas going away - like others have mentioned.

I feel like they will absolutely need to open up the queues for at least the IP houses - I could see it becoming an issue with people crowding around the house entrances if this isn't the case.

I know queues need to be built - but they may need to try to set them up a bit earlier?

Considering the past few years they've had to have a decent amount of TMs set up the S&S areas, I think "moving" those TMs over to setup the house queues will be much easier with no guests in the way backstage.

This makes a ton of sense. Rather then dedicate the staffing to setting up and releasing S&S areas - they can use those employees to start setting up the house queues around the time they'd typically begin setting up the holding areas.

Wonder what the benefit of the new approach is from company’s perspective? Maybe combo of having the crowds more spread out is less hectic operationally + not having staff dedicated to corralling + more guests spending $$ on food throughout the park?

Yup. You’ve listed all of them. Early food and bev sales will also help with later crowds. S&S folks will already have eaten before the larger crowd comes in and makes the food lines longer. There were issues last year with F&B lines being loooong.

Yeah, if I don’t have to stand in a line I’m more likely to mill around and buy a couple beers before everything gets going. Changing this system would easily extract $30-50 out of my wallet.

Totally agree with this. It would also maybe add another reason to stay at a Signature Collection like Hard Rock. The primary HHN benefit is proximity to the park, but you also get the Unlimited Express, which you can theoretically use during the Scream Early period. But if you have to get in line right at 3:00 for Stay and Scream, you don't really get to use it. Theoretically, there could be a better opportunity under this new system to go on a couple of rides before having to queue up under a new system.

+ having guests wait inside a quick service restaurant is safer than having guests standing out in the sun on an asphalt street.

Tons of reasons, from someone going "this is a better way" to listening to guest feedback. Not everything is about pushing spend.

IDK, plenty of people go to S&S and just hang out, eat and drink before the houses open and do not queue up. I've also had no issue leaving the pen area to grab food and drink and return, and SanFran was especially chill. If you are actually in the house queue instead of a pen it will make it harder to go get a drink while you are waiting. I'm not overly optimistic they can make this work well, especially right out of the gate.
I also think eliminating Express from multi night tickets make S&S worse, as you are more likely to go to S&S instead of strolling into the event a little later and just using your Express.

It'll be a fun experiment to watch. It'll definitely have issues the first few days.

I think ultimately, this is a far better choice once they can test and adjust what doesn't work versus the more traditional waiting pens. Last year they were actively limiting capacity at each S&S, so I think there's less of a need to get in line earlier.
