I’m inclined to agree with Dan, if they really wanted to allocate resources to a Tribute Store, they would. I know there’s only a certain number of hands who can work on any given project at any time, but Universal knows how important the Tribute Store has become to the event.

It doesn’t have to be a sinister “we’re absolutely cutting it this year due to diminishing returns”, but if they’re willing to forgo a key aspect of the previous years, it implies that the numbers weren’t worth it for them to pursue and do other projects instead. There’s money and workers to be found if they really wanted to make it happen.

TBF, it can be both. If they really wanted to, they could put the store over where the Summer one typically goes. I'm not saying that the Tribute Stores haven't been successful, just that any additional merch sales that might come from a big fancy location, might not be worth the full budget any more and this was an opportune time to shrink.

It really is just a matter of ops taking priority, even for Hollywood. Nothing more than that.

Besides merch sales, The Tribute stores are like a new B/C ticket attraction. They're a nice, comfortable, entertaining walk through attraction with AC.

Oh, I understand.

Let me put it this way: If the Rockit project weren't happening, I don't think we'd be having this conversation.

Wait...what? Ok. Now I really have to watch the movie. Isn't that like...100% of what the game is?

Unless you're really interested in watching purely for HHN homework's sake, you do not need to see the FNaF movie. As I was watching it on opening night, surrounded by other FNaF fans, I thought to myself, "This is going to be a terribly boring rewatch." That rewatch is not happening haha.

Most of it is a deeply dull family drama. Most of it is set during the day. The Security Guard sleeps through 3 of the 5 Nights at Freddys, and has the same dream sequence like 4 seperate times. A lot of fans raised it up as the best thing ever because it played the funny Living Tombstone theme for the credits or whatever, but it's very akin to something like The Mario Movie; empty fluff content, but at least Mario is a little bit fun. The FNaF film is the worst thing it can be: boring.

Looks like we might not be getting podcasts this year after all... that dormant Discover Universal episode turned out to be a Horror Unleashed ad :(

Counter point:
As an old fart I had ZERO interest in the franchise. A younger extended family member showed me one of the games and it looked like that horrible Jurassic Park Sega CD game where you just pointed and clicked at junk on the screen. Like Myst. The game looked like the most boring thing ever. Thought the whole IP was just stupid.

It came out, I had Peacock, and was bored one night and decided to give it a shot and really enjoyed it. I think people who loved the source material hated the movie, but people who didn't care about it, kinda enjoyed it for what it was. 90 minutes of PG-13 action in a creepy Chuck E Cheese. Now, the acting was some of the worse acting I've ever seen and I liked Willy's Wonderland a million times more, but the movie as a PG-13 video game adaptation was completely serviceable.

Everything else looks plussed this year so far. If the tribute store is a little less than what we have been getting I’ll take it. Easier on my wallet maybe.

I think the movie is pretty terrible on its own terms, and I'm ambivalent on the FNAF games.

Can't wait until we get to next year, the HRRR construction has died down quite a bit, and the Tribute Store is back

The podcast that was hidden ended up being a rundown of Horror Unleashed. It released today.

Though I have not given up hope, I still think they will end up doing them.

So the downsized Tribute Store is more or less confirmed, huh? I’ve found the store to be more enjoyable then several of the houses the last few years - and I’d rather have one or even two fewer houses then lose the Store. Of course, what the event really doesn’t need are fewer things to absorb crowds - another reason a smaller store is foreboding.

I can be pretty pessimistic about theme parks, but not about HHN. I’ve been going with friends for over 20 years and I’m rarely disappointed - I even thought 2024 was great and disagree with most criticisms of it. This year, however, has just been a series of gut punches, and the only thing that looks really strong are the streets. Put that together with the insane explosion in Uni hotel rates and I’m genuinely feeling down about the event for the first time in a long time.
