This is going to be a warning flare to all would-be leakers and those that have received leaked information:

As a general PSA for those that would like to see certain IP's come to the event. HHN is in actual jeopardy of losing one or more of the speculated IP's if information is leaked. If you want to see some of your favorite characters/sets/movies/shows come to life and you have certain info on some or all of them, please, for the community's sake, keep it to yourself.

It's at level: "F around and find out." And it may be the reason we can't have nice things.

Reddit and Twitter both think it’s never coming because of rumored issues between universal and the company that owns the rights.

Well, that makes things even more confusing, because the other major property is so obvious given the current pop culture zeitgeist that it’s inconceivable to think it wouldn’t be widely rumored.

I absolutely believe you and everyone should heed your warning, but out of curiosity I have to ask… why? Why would an IP holder be so skittish about people learning the property was going to be at a major event a few weeks early? What’s the economic logic (assuming it is economic) behind that caution? It’s not as though the leak is going to damage the viability of the franchise, as spoilers might.

Well we were all duped about a certain IP. A good few of you will be excited to know what the actual IP is, some will be disappointed. But this is HUGE for the future of HHN.

If you’re a fan of horror and have considered it a white whale then get excited.

I’ve just talked with that poster. There was an IP that we heard early rumors about it but it was considered a white whale. We all wrote it off too early and should have been listening to the these rumors more closely.

I do want to clarify that everyone can still speculate on this white wale IP. If you speculate and guess it correctly that’s not a crime.

If HHN is worried about possibly losing certain IP, wouldn’t it behoove them to try and announce that house as soon as possible? Does the rights holder have the ultimate say when Universal announces a house or is it up to the parks themselves when they do the announcement after the deal is done?

The history with trying to acquire this house has been shaky and since the production company has never been apart of HHN before, that’s why there has been so much secrecy and misinformation about this years event.

The one that we all thought was “top secret” was never happening. It was a red herring being spread around.

Universal doesn't necessarily have final say on marketing decisions like announcement dates or images that can be used. Sometimes the IP holder wants things done a certain way.

I pretty much know I'll love the event no matter what. Just booked Sapphire Falls for Sept 9th-18th. The announcement I'm most looking forward to is Rush Of Fear tickets.

Two houses have used the IP, although neither the original movie nor any others have ever had a "book report" house.

I think we are at the point now where we can’t absolutely expect any of the rumored houses to be coming to the event. But I also wouldn’t rule any of them completely out either, including ST. Just going to have to wait and see.

They've done Thing twice. Conjuring, IT, and Lost Boys are all WB, with whom Universal has a regular relationship. Scream... well, we know the history of Scream at the event, but I suppose it's possible - I'd question how much of a "white whale" it would be given the history of the IP at the event, Hellraiser has a complicated rights situation, but the most recent installment was Disney (and demonstrates that it's not a property that's going to be a big draw for the general public).

Everything else aside, none of those feel like "white whales" the way American Werewolf, Shining, Exorcist, and Ghostbusters were.
