People thought the controller was too hurtful and mean last year lol, they could never do hellgate again.

Seriously? I couldn’t drag my daughter away from that zone- she kept volunteering to submit at the stage and thought it was super fun.

controller kicked me out once, though.

I said something noncompliant (can’t remember what) and she pointed at me and had her henchmen kick me out of the zone.

I read it in an old copy of HHNU’s book I have laying around the house. According to that, there was a silent protest outside the gates and it was even on the local news. They were called out by the National Mental Heath Associations of Florida. In reference to the mascot who was a bald inmate in a straitjacket.

I just thought it would be an interesting choice for 2022 if it were to come back close to the original form because of how it was received by some back then. Now knowing what legacy said about it, even more so!

So there's a difference between Shadybrook, Hellgate Prison, and HHN 2004's marketing/theme.

Psychoscarepy takes place inside Shadybrook Asylum, which wasn't featured in 2004. Hellgate was, obviously, the prison house featured that year.

The marketing for 2004 used this guy for the "Breaking Point" angle, with other images featuring his face with cracks (aka "Breaking")


It was less about a mental health patient, and as @Wesker69 pointed out, more about what fear does to a person. He wasn't a villain, but a victim of all the horrors he experienced.

Now back to our regularly scheduled speculation of monsters and mayhem...

I'm looking forward to POV videos of "Spirits" & "Wharf" since I won't be available to visit the east coast. Hopefully these two will be part of the UTH tour because they should be visually stunning.

Dead Man's Wharf should hopefully bring back the tilted shipwreck from The Forsaken!

I just hope we'd see that same energy in the comments if it was any of the Iron Maiden/Metallica/etc. that a certain demographic requests all the time.

A "certain demographic"? You mean us "old folks"? Look, I don't care for the Weeknd for various reasons of which I'm not going to get into here. I"m also not going to sit here and trash the fact that they are bringing him to HHN and giving him what amounts to royal treatment. I've said this a million times - the only way to do an event like this is to try and have something for EVERYONE. That is why there are 10 houses. I will go through this house because I have a pact with my group that we go through every single house at least twice. After that, we start picking our faves and let the ones we don't like drop off the list. Maybe it will be a terrific house, and I can put aside my dislike and just enjoy it for what it is. OR, maybe I'll hate it, and it's one less thing I have to do each night.

However, to toss a comment like this is disingenuous - especially when so many of you are arguing about how cool this is, how it will be "something different" and waxing on about how much you love the guy and his music. What's the difference from those of us who prefer a different artist who would fit the category of horror? I said previously that I would've loved Ozzy because he was doing horror in his music and shows before the Weeknd was out of his nappies. Does this make me wrong? No. Am I going to lobby A&D to bring Ozzy in? No. I'm simply stating an opinion like the rest of you. It doesn't rule me out as an avid HHN fan, and it doesn't mean my "certain demographic" doesn't count, too.

Let's be careful about how we discuss. Mutual respect is a glorious thing.

I agree. I'm going to say it - the only reason we're not seeing the exact same comments here about the Weeknd is because of the Billie Eilish potential last year. Billie walked so the Weeknd could run.

Horror and Metal share A LOT of mutual properties including focus on the macabre, a super niche fanbase (for the record me lol) and if I wanted to be really snooty they both have a focus on crescendos (scares or solos). I mean, album art alone...

I'm excited for the Weeknd house (because I'm easily excited, I only know one of his songs) but if you read the forums last year you would have thought Billie Eilish was going to personally show up and slaughter the Arts and Design team lmao. Lots of people praising the Weeknd right now we're pretty quiet when Eilish hate was in full swing.

I think it’s time to move on from this line of conversation. As I (and the other mods) can attest, there actually was a substantial amount of ire and hostility aimed at the Billie Eilish maze when it was rumored. There have also been some problematic reactions to The Weeknd - the sort of pushback that artists like Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper did not receive.

No one is saying anyone has to be excited about The Weeknd or like his music. But to imply his music/imagery isn’t horror is a bit of a stretch. Ditto Eilish’s material at the time. (This is a general response not aimed at anyone in particular.)
