Hmm curiouser and curiouser. That video from the VIP room can't come soon enough. Wonder what it'll be, hopefully it isn't Aiello just saying "this year will be like no other" then show B roll

I figured I'd leave this here if anyone was interested... if the mods/admins aren't cool with the link, I can copy-paste directly into a post, it's just very lengthy so I figured I'd try this first. Just an open letter that discusses a lot of my feelings about how the event is being run right now.

thank you so much for writing that. It feels good to know that someone else sees the problems with the event. I appreciated this a lot.

Combining Hollywood with Orlando is slowly ruining this, specially when the houses started to be less great once the hollywood people came here.
I could see the change right after they mentioned that some of the people that worked over there and some of the people that work on the rides were going to work on the houses here. a negative change.

I see the event at Singapore, all that creativity, and it hurts. I know their event is not as big, but still seeing how creative they are trying to make their event bugs me in that I wish we had stuff like that over here.
I agree with what you said about the scares being monotonous now. same boo holes as always but now with less actors per room. I think what bothers me the most about hhn now is how they haven't done anything innovative as far as props or scares goes. innovation seems to just have stopped. And I would be fine with that if we at least had more actors per room... but...

as far as the frequent fear pass, not everyone has the time to go to the event every night with work/school and all that.but how many people actually go every day?

but this was an excellent analysis on hhn.

Call me pretentious but I thought the only innovative and amazing house of 23 was werewolf. Every other one had just no scares or anything cool about it. I miss the days of 18 and 21 where every house was creative and had a wow moment in their own ways. I think the thing is that with marketing pushing these IPs that creative can't really do anything but make a exact replica. Sure you'll have their little Easter eggs but it's not the same touch. I miss the days when you'd walk into a soundstage like interstellar terror or nightingales and think to yourself "I'm in a different world" unlike when I walk into a maze now and think "I'm in evil dead". It must suck for the designers to have most if not all their creative liberties away from them. Being in arts and design was a dream job for me when I was in middle school, if the event was like this back then id have second thoughts

I'd recommend creating a separate thread to discuss this on the General Horror Nights Discussion area.

Let's try to keep the discussion in this thread specific to this year's event

I wish the scarezones were good like in years past as well.

If they could get away with it, I Bet the people at Uni would erase scarezones from the event completely. Every year seems like less budget and less detail goes to the scarezones.
Either they just recycle old costumes and just use paint on the actors or they don't do any good props. Feels like the scarezones now are just an afterthought.
Like if they just HAVE to have scarezones so they might as well put whatever on the streets.

In my opinion 08 was the last great year for SZs (2010 comes close). They have not top the atmosphere of the skool house nor CP since then.

What about 21? That year wasn't as wow as 18 but it had it's really insane moments

Yeah oh my god that scare zone was just hilariously sad, those masks....now that I think of it most scare zones in 21 were just more atmospheric than scary. 7 was really the only one that got me good (damn snake people) I liked grown evil too, that should definitely be a maze

I thought apart from the Lady Luck zone and Nightmaze, 21 was a good year for SZs. I liked 7, Grown Evil, Canyon of Dark Souls, and Acid Assault a lot.

Yeah canyon was amazing, that was one of my favorite years easily. Everything was just so cool and creative. It all introduced the first scare zone into a maze and that was just amazing. They should definitely do more of those in the future (IF THEY DO SCARE ZONES!!!!) would love to see path of the wicked or 7 into a maze

yeah that's exactly what happened to me and my group the last 3 years. no one wanted to bother with the zones. while in 2010 or 08 everyone wanted to check out the zones as well as the houses....

as fas as the parade,I think it is bad show that they prefer a parade than an event that brings in so much money. As a HHN fan it is almost kind of insulting because it is like Universal saying:

"We Know you guys love HHN but we prefer to make the "day guests" happy with a 10 minute parade that we show everyday of the entire year than to create a good Halloween event that people are paying hundreds of dollars to come and see..." :bang::bang::bang:

Seriously, clear and those tombs these last two years in Hollywood were just mind blowingly bad. Especially after stuff like 7, 20 years and lights camera haction years before. Atleast theme kidzone and expo to make up for this. Universal is getting as cheap as my ex girlfriend when it comes to this....SNAP

I understand the parade draws in people during the day, but like I was saying, HHN crowds are spending 100 bucks on tickets, plus food, plus HHN merch, plus express passes, etc etc.

and the parade is top priority?

it needs a good paint job too, I don't see why universal can't put it up for refurbishment on the October months. There are so many ways to fix this problem that I barely qualifies as a problem. They are just being lazy. I hate to use the term lazy at this event but when all scare actors in the entire park are zombies and the scare zones are barely themed I can't help myself

Could Showtime's Penny Dreadful be in the mix? It has good reviews from critics and was Showtime's highest premiere in total viewers ever.
