This just seems like a terrible idea. Why name two coasters opening within years of each other the same thing? They could've set it in LA and still named it literally anything else. Comments are ripping the name to shreds. I know they're not 100% indicative of the actual market, but it's wild that nearly every single comment at least on Instagram is complaining that they chose to build more F&F instead of focusing on classic movies like BTTF or Ghostbusters or literally anything else.

It's to the point that I almost wonder if they'll reconsider.

Those comments will end when people actually see the coaster. If Stardust can be popular and well received with a minimal theme, then so can this.

Pivoting, but track is now on site! Track seems to be in two separate colors--with the station/maintenance area going to be a silver-grey color, with the main track being blue.

Bringing this over from the other thread:

Is there blue track in there somewhere? I saw grey track, but the only blue I saw was tarps.

Why does Universal hate BTTF....its just there so perfect for this and.....yeah anyway

I hope coaster fans like it

A bare steel coaster is absolutely not perfect for BttF. The 88 mph deal was for very short bursts in the movie. A Gringotts type indoor coaster makes much more sense for bttf.

I'm sure it'll be mindblowing and personally I don't care about the theme. It would've been a complete waste to use one of those classic properties on a coaster instead of getting their own lands and E-tickets that specifically suit them.

When I say "I wonder if they'll reconsider" I specifically mean the name, since it was an executive and not creative choice, and I have yet to see a single person who thinks naming it the same thing as the USH coaster is a good idea. I mean, it's going to be years of headaches typing out "oh yeah I love Hollywood Drift (Orlando)."

My argument would be that nobody is going to enjoy this coaster less if it has a name reflective of New York, regardless of New York's connection to the F&F movies as a location, but it makes the park better and more coherent if it does.

As for the preshow, it's easy to shoot multiple takes where the actors are talking about different locations. When they brought in Richard Attenborough for Jurassic Park, they had him do separate takes talking about "Hollywood" and "Orlando."

Yeah, I think two things can be true: Ultimately, the name will not matter to 98% of park guests. Still, as a world-class theme park operator, Universal should have given the Florida attraction a unique name that reflected its setting, even if it meant some additional work/expense.

On the name front (and pretty much this entire project), I think it just continues to reflect USF as the "whatever can fit" park. No long-term thinking when it comes to developing the park and making it all fit together.

With that said, I think it's an excellent choice for the IP and park (finally giving USF a proper coaster)... and should hopefully alleviate HHN crowds when it opens.

My response would be that that thought process requires more "twist yourself into a pretzel to justify it" work than just putting “New York” (or even something non-geographic-specific) in the name.

Following ETP’s own logic, then why is there a Hollywood set on a New York set... when an actual Hollywood set also exists a short walk away?

And I'm sure a rejoinder could be, "Well, Twister didn't take place in New York, either." Right, it didn't. It's also gone, now. Ideally, you smooth over thematic incongruities when you make a replacement. You improve the thematic integrity, not double-down on nonsense.

If Revenge of the Mummy were to ever be replaced (please, no), I would expect its replacement to be themed to New York, as well.

If I were going to be really uncharitable, I'd say it's an amusement park decision being made in a theme park.

We're not talking about some huge additional expense, here; it's signage and preshow stuff (and, perhaps, very unfortunate concerns about the cost of manufacturing two different shirt designs).

My guess for what the name was going to be was “Orlando Drift” to differentiate it from the Hollywood version in no uncertain terms. Same name on both coasts despite different layouts is wonky but oh well.

Unambitious prediction: the cars will go up the spike forward, spin around at the top, and then fall forward, or vice versa. Ride has big shoes to fill coming off VC and Stardust, but Uni has been killing it with their coasters lately.
I, too, think the cars will be facing forward going up the spike and turn to face downward as it approaches the apex. But that means the floaty airtime will be kind of sideways. Cool. And to put the "spike" in perspective, Hagrid's spike is 65 feet tall. This one is 170'.

And I think it would be cool if the facade is a movie theater that has F&F: HD on the marquee as if it is the movie playing there.

I probably am totally wrong on this, but when I was watching test footage and a demo of the Hollywood Drift coaster at USH, the first thing I thought of was “this is going to get so many people sick right? Spinning, speed and inversions at a park attracting families and not known for coasters?”

But I guess they must believe in the popularity so much they’re already launching it on the east coast too.

It is going to be an absolute yak-fest. It's gonna be BAD- especially during HHN, when this thing will probably be sucking in thousands of drunk, rowdy guests. I feel bad for the TMs assigned to this thing on that front.

If they really wanted to commit to the “we’re making a movie” bit, wouldn’t it be Suburbs of Atlanta Drift or Victoria, B.C. Drift? :sob:

What will happen to the SS33 facade? Kept the same or will they attempt to do something with it?

I had to do a double take on that name lol, but I have difficulty imaging street racing in Manhattan, maybe some outer part of Brooklyn.

The most important aspect of this is Turd: The Ride, I mean Supercharged, is closing. Send that bus straight to the junkyard yay.

I mean... yes? HRRR's entrance wasn't in New York. It was still a shaky fit where it was, but certainly better than what this is going to be.

I just think that when you're in the theme park business, you're supposed to care about this stuff (especially when it can't possibly impact your attraction budget either way).

And also see my previous point about replacements.
