Maybe the idea here is that we’re not in “New York”. We’re going behind the scenes of the studio park. If it’s all happening between sound stages/near Citywalk, maybe New York isn’t really fitting either.

That's the gist.

Again, I don't like the name, but that's low on the totem pole, IMO. Whenever a name is dropped, there usually is a loud uproar about something that ultimately isn't important. There was a consensus that hated the VelociCoaster name when it was first announced, and you never hear that issue anymore since it opened.

I'm surprised there were still people expecting this to be anything but Fast and the Furious.

So Supercharged closes, do they use that massive show building for a new ride? Maybe a Ghostbusters dark ride? Or do they bulldoze it and maybe expand New York or Diagon Alley? Me thinks if they wanted to expand Diagon they would have, before they built Supercharged. Thoughts?
Also also please at the very least refurb the Ghostbusters firehouse for a Bruce/Jaws like photo spot

First off, a bit disappointed that the Universal execs forced them to call this Hollywood drift when Creative themselves was itching a new name to disgunish USF's coaster.

But the biggest thing we can all rejoice about is Supercharged confirmed to be heading to yesterland where it belongs. With that now confirmed to be closing in 2027, it raises some questions. Will the replacement for that be a reskin that can open in 2028 or will UC aim higher with a revamped ride system even if it opens later?

USH and USF getting two variable based world class coasters with different layouts befitting their parks and different visual components highlighting their two differences should be considered an absolute win.

The name being Hollywood Drift makes an unfortunate element of sense for one distinct element: trademarks. Had we of seen a differing name, it would’ve been out well before the coaster.

I suspect branding wise UDX wants to have this experience be considered a shared experience in branding. For Hollywood, Orlando, and hypothetically Beijing. What matters is how different each ride experience offers, to allow it to be different.

Hollywood Drift USH being more in the vein of a Taiga, Helix, and Time Traveller will make it the standout coaster of Southern California, whereas Orlando being more of a mix of Ride of Happiness, Gotham City Escape, and Pantheon will make it stand out in comparison to what is done with SeaWorld (and make it stand out amongst Velocicoaster and Stardust).

Even if both don’t get theming, they will be true world class experiences that you can’t find anywhere else, and I think that’ll help settle branding issues.

Isn’t BTTF replacing Supercharged according to Len Testa? I don’t see how it would’ve made any sense here anyways.

There is not. Just the logo and announcement.

Not sure of the validity, but if it is true, SF at least is in Cali. Plus, with the area being so small, it's not like they couldn't fix a few spots to give it a Hill Valley-ish vibe.

But I wouldn't make any bets on that rumor ATM.

I can appreciate the name. Taking the park back to its original Hollywood and movie studio roots. Could've been called "Studio Drift" or "Backlot Drift" though.

Speaking as someone who doesn't live in California or Florida, I enjoy visiting a theme park celebrating movie-making in Hollywood where they actually make movies.

Going to a theme park in Florida that's themed around movie-making is...no. Totally inauthentic and tired. But if that's what they're going for, they'd better put a crapload of klieg lights and director's chairs and other film-making stuff out on those streets to sell me that the NY area is a backlot and not a NY themed area of a theme park.

But is this a big deal? Not much in theme parks is a big deal. But the way I see it, this is like a van pulled up to Comcast headquarters with a bunch of cash and the execs there waved it away, saying. "No thank you." It was free value.

Just another example of why executives should not be allowed anywhere near decisions.

That name is unbelievably, pathetically lazy. It's an unthemed coaster, all you have to do is have signage that matches New York, it's the easiest theming of all time.

If it really is to pinch pennies because of shirts and merch... then that's pretty sad.

BTTF would be a huge waste of IP for this attraction.

Like I said in the last thread - the name will bother people until about 1 minute after they get off the ride lol

The name is an obvious nod to HRRR.

The kept name is a tribute to Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket! Maybe the track will be painted red, with on-board music... and oh they're just rebuilding HRRR aren't they

And as an extra node they'll retain the old entrance sign and cover the "RRR" part with the new name crudely covered over with a printed banner that'll be removed/replaced every hurricane season (extra extra nod!!!)

California has been more prominent in the franchise than New York, the only time it took place in my was part 8.

if they named it fast and furious new York the ride would have had to be with parts of that 8th movie,
if they are gonna use the same pre show as universal in Hollywood then it makes more sense to name it the same.

it might not just be merchandise synergy but the actual preshow itself. ( if they happen to be the same)

the location might not. make sense, but Hollywood as a ride location makes more sense for the ride than New York.

at least that is how it could make sense.

My argument would be that nobody is going to enjoy this coaster less if it has a name reflective of New York, regardless of New York's connection to the F&F movies as a location, but it makes the park better and more coherent if it does.

As for the preshow, it's easy to shoot multiple takes where the actors are talking about different locations. When they brought in Richard Attenborough for Jurassic Park, they had him do separate takes talking about "Hollywood" and "Orlando."

My guess for what the name was going to be was “Orlando Drift” to differentiate it from the Hollywood version in no uncertain terms. Same name on both coasts despite different layouts is wonky but oh well.

Unambitious prediction: the cars will go up the spike forward, spin around at the top, and then fall forward, or vice versa. Ride has big shoes to fill coming off VC and Stardust, but Uni has been killing it with their coasters lately.
