LOL Its perfectly fine for you to hate the movies but calling it a dead franchise with diminishing returns is just factually incorrect.

I've never seen a more clear cut example of diminishing returns.... the last film cost twice as much as Furous 7, and made $800 million less. It makes no sense to invest any more park space to this franchise in its current state.

Well where the hell did they get 20 from?

I googled and saw that number amongst several articles. I stand corrected.

Hogsmede is 13. So ~20 combined. Probably just a misunderstanding of the person who wrote the article.

My mind envisions that if done right the Oz IP could lend itself well to some sort of ROTR tier trackless ride, assuming Universal wants to take another try at trackless. They have filed a patent for some sort of interactive trackless ride system that is guided by infrared lighting, so maybe its in the realm of possibility.

Emerald City: Two rides attractions
One walkthrough
Shops/Restuarants

Ride Attractions
The Battle for Oz:

You as a guest of Oz are sent to the skies on what seems to a just a regular tour of OZ on a paraglider like seat devices after Dorothy's arrival before you get caught in a battle between Madam Morrible who is controlling the weather and Elphaba and her team of flying monkey scouts. (indoor coaster)

Ride vehicle:

--------------------------------------------------------------

Clock Dragon Proudly Presents: The True Story:

This ride retells story but in a unique way using live actors, music, and showmanship. Using a combination of ride systems including Universal's mystery theatre concept, danse macabre tilt table, the Zelda ride concept that allowed for water traversing and suspended traverse.

You enter an elaborate green theatre where you are told you are going to hear the true story of what really happened. You enter a theatre where ride vehicles are divided into sections that interlock well. After everyone is aboard, the ride starts with the live actors essentially reenacting the story of Oz and the Grimmerie before one person yells that's not true! Tell us the true story. That leads to the room slowly going black, the floor with the ride vehicles dropping, and the ride vehicles start to separate and spin almost simulating a tornado before the end up going on three different paths (Glinda's, Wizard/Dorothy's, Elphaba') to chose from (for rerideablity). Each ride path experiences Popular and Defying Gravity and For Good which are the three massively complex show scenes.

Glinda's Path:
Has the ability to glide over water and be suspended. Goes through the story with Galinda and Glinda's highlight moments. Dancing vehicles and tilting platforms are the highlight on this track. Key Scenes: Dear Old Shiz, What is this feeling, Dancing Through Life, Popular, Defying Gravity, Thank Goodness, For Good, No One Mourns the Wicked, Finale

Wizard's/Dorothy Path:
This path combines the original 1939 film with Wicked. There is a level of intensity here as ride vehicle as the movement here is a bit more chaotic, a bit more razz dazzle with some drops but 100% tracked not suspended. Key Scenes Here: Something Bad, Popular, One Short Day, Sentimental Man, Defying Gravity, Wizard of Oz Medley, Wonderful, Sentimental Man Reprise, Finale

Elphaba's Path:
This path tells Elphaba's story from Birth to the ending of Wicked. This path ends up mostly suspended after the first scene of her birth with drops and ascents. Key Scenes Here: No one mourns the Wicked, Wizard and I, Dancing through life the Ozdust ballroom, Popular, I'm not that Girl, Defying Gravity, As long as your mine, No Good Deed Goes unpunished, For Good, Finale

Ride ends up in the theatre similar to the first one but not exactly with an original song performed by an animatronic animal band as you depart the ride vehicles.

Wicked at Universal (in the United States) has always led me to the conclusion that the land would be more or less split between the new film and the 1939 film. While the attempt was made to do a merge of the two stories in Japan, I think the lack of license from the original film killed a bit of the hype. Still, I don't think I expected Wicked to be as big as it has become.

I think some deal with Warner Brothers is inevitable, considering that Wizard of Oz still pulls in merchandise numbers and factoring in the deep connection WB has with Universal re: Harry Potter, Beetlejuice, Scooby Doo. I wonder if Universal building Wicked might make WB angry by showcasing a direct competitor to one of their key franchises? It's the reason why, before the movie's premiere, I'd have ventured to guess that the front half of any land would be based on the original film and the back half Wicked themed.

It is tricky, though, to have the two diametrically opposed depictions of the Wicked Witch of the West in the same land... This is a tough nut to crack, but for some reason I feel that Warner Brothers may hold hostage to other properties (LotR) if the original film isn't somehow incorporated. I know merchandise and advertising was extremely difficult when Wizard of Oz was featured in DHS, too...

The whole thing gets more complicated if you dive into the merger rumors.

People aren't kidding when they say Oz is a very difficult franchise to bring to life in a theme park!

But it seems that for the new Wicked movie, Warner Bros gave the filmmakers the rights to use the design elements from The Wizard of Oz. That is why in this new movie, there are so many visual Easter eggs that hearken back to the 1939 film: ruby slippers (which Glinda throws at Elphaba during “Popular”), the swirling yellow brick road in Munchkinland, Glinda’s pink bubble gown, Elphaba riding a bike with a basket in the back (Ms. Gulch-style), and even a cameo of Dorothy and her crew, complete with her iconic braids and blue gingham.

Additionally warner bros is already trying to take some credit by highligting Wicked was partially filmed on their sets in England. That won't be any issue.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I have zero interest in Wicked. I'm older now and out of touch with what's popular. So I asked my 3 sons (2 teens and a 23 yr old) what they thought of Wicked. They as well showed no interest in the movie or park representation. Are younger kids interested? Just curious if the GP would be interested in park representation. I wouldn't mind a ride but please no Wicked land anywhere in Universal.

If their parents are interested, maybe. We’ll see what kind of legs the movie has (and how the sequel performs). It’s still early days.

I think the obvious move is to just have an Oz land that’s somewhere in between the original film, the book, and Wicked

Ideally it'd be an generic/original Oz land with Wicked as the land's E-ticket stage show

I’ve been dead set on LOTR being earmarked here, I’m now not so sure. Wicked just fits Epic Universe imo. We haven’t seen the full park yet, but the aesthetic of the film and Oz fit this park like a glove. The Portal would be amazing, all the different colors, immersion in Oz, a show, family oriented, I’m convinced they should go ahead with this. There’s plenty of other things they can do with LOTR in Orlando including the current parks if they wanted.

I doubt they'd do a live Wicked stage show at Epic. There's two large stage shows already and with Universal's entertainment rep, it's doubtful they'd keep three shows running. Probably why Monsters Live Show got replaced with the small coaster.

I think we can all agree that Warner Bros. Will be the real winners with the Epic Universe expansion.
