BTW, What is with OPN that they don’t like Potter and will dislike voodoo doughnuts?

Religious reasons I believe. If I am remembering correctly. They're super nice about it, they just prefer not to photograph the Potter areas due to the magic involved in the stories. They do photograph London waterfront in their updates though.

Yes. They adhered to that policy pretty strongly in the past alluding to that. But, for some reason, they've actually had some photos of Hogsmeade at times this year. That surprised me. Don't know why they wandered from their policy, though. Seemed inconsistent.

You kind of have to admire their honesty about it and given how big Potter has been and will be for Orlando, I don’t think it’s something they’ve taken likely.

This was actually brought up before. I see nothing wrong with it. Its okay for people to stick to their beliefs. But back to topic please.:)

For those who have eaten the donuts before, how do they compare to say Krispy Kreme?

Krispy Kreme. Ahh, I remember their first openings well. People would line up for blocks to get their donuts. There was word out that they were heads & tails above anything else. But then, a strange thing happened. People realized they really weren't much different than most of the competition. Then their sales nosedived. Krispy Kreme is good but not great.

An excerpt from Bill Virgin's article on Seattle pi. Might just happen to Voodoo

Krispy Kreme fell as quickly as it rose - seattlepi.com
"But Krispy Kreme compounded its problems with earnings revisions, sales declines, an SEC investigation and shareholder-lawsuit allegations of channel-stuffing, book-cooking and lack of timely disclosure to investors.

(A side note: There's been a lot of griping over the years, including in this space, about frivolous, fill-in-the-blank and churn-'em-out shareholder lawsuits filed whenever a stock drops in price, no matter the cause. The sort of meaty issues the Krispy Kreme suits are raising, and which merit further investigation, are exactly why such suits can be valuable as tools for keeping companies in line -- when used properly.)

Krispy Kreme now finds itself in that dreaded position in which its name is never mentioned in news stories without adjectives such as "troubled," "ailing" or "reeling" in close proximity."

However it turns out, the Krispy Kreme story is instructive in how media hype bubbles are created -- and how they get popped.

Good points. Now, instead of Krispy Kreme being fairly exclusive, they're even in places like the gasoline/convenience store down the street from me. I buy them, they're decent, but they're really no different than the non Krispy Kreme donuts at the gasoline/ convenient station next to that one. If I had to blind test the two, there's no way I could tell the difference...It all was just pure hype.

The real appeal to Krispy Kreme to me as a kid was seeing the donuts get made. They had those machines behind glass, and it was mesmerizing to see.

Also, a fresh Kreme donut will always be number one, but after a few minutes they’re just like most others.

The Krispy Kreme that you get at a gas station is NOTHING like a Krispy Kreme that you get hot off the glazing conveyor belt. I've had many a donut (not voodoo yet tho) but I have never had a donut melt in my mouth like a Krispy Kreme off the conveyor. The closest store is in Mohegan Sun Casino, about an hour away, which we visit at minimum a few times a year for concerts and such, and we never leave without grabbing a half dozen or dozen donuts, they are that good. You will also never find a better day-old donut than a KK, they put every other day-old donut to shame.

Hell, I remember from Ontario California my first experience with Krispy Kreme as a child, and the taste of it, in chain, is still not like anything else when fresh off the belt.

That said, welcome to IU.

As far as Voodoo goes, and some of the risk, I'm sure Universal and Voodoo have agreed to just bring the Hollywood menu to Orlando with little to no changes of what's there. What I'm curious of, is space.

*waits for donut thread*

So Voodoo Donuts is really more of gimmick shop than traditional? I can see that doing gang-busters.

I guess i’m Not a foodie enough to know what makes a good donut. I get the fresh glazed KK’s. The rest, I assume it is just overkill. I never understood cake for breakfast myself.

Never had this place, but down here, Dandy has been doing it forever...a newer chain is Jupiter...they open and a set time, then close when they run out of donuts...strange business (to me), but they all seem to do ok.

Perhaps we could make more of a comparison of Voodoo to Sprinkles as opposed to Krispy Kreme?

Because like Disney Springs, once Universal Orlando opens Voodoo Donuts in Orlando; both Citywalk Hollywood and Citywalk Orlando will have their own version of the Voodoo Donuts shop (presumably with similar menus), similar to how Sprinkles has locations at both Disney Springs and at Downtown Disney in California.

The Instagram factor surely has to be taken into consideration now as a serious point when building anything at the resort. CBBR and Toothsome cater to that crowd more than than average.
