a piece I'd really like to write is on the clear inspiration imagineers have taken from the natural sightlines you experience in national parks. going to Yosemite for the first time as an adult a couple of years ago was a real, "aha" moment in that regard. I think it'll be very neat to see how that inspiration comes full circle by them building a pseudo-national park at magic kingdom.

WDW has really upped their game after being faced with the reality of Diagon Alley.

Not sure what the policy is regarding posting things from WDWMagic, but this forum post -- written-up by somebody who heard the conference call/presentation from Disney for the media this morning -- has a lot more details about Disney's thinking:

MK - Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I suspect this is not so much a conscious decision by management, but rather a consequence of limited resources. Think of it this way. If you are the maintenance manager for the MK (or Liberty Square. Don't know what level these things are decided at) you have limited money and man-hours to...

IF they can actually execute on what they say they're intending, I feel a lot better (though losing the Liberty Belle will always be tragic).

Frankly, this seems great! It seems like they are actually listening to the concerns of fans which is refreshing to see. I certainly hope this all turns out.

I'm not always a fan of the finished product, and the construction timeline has annoyed me to no end, but there is definite ambition in these recent Disney additions that I really do appreciate.

Rise and Guardians are both wonderful premier attractions for their parks. There is a clear drive to improve and update weaker areas of the parks like with Tropical Americas, New Frontierland, and even the Buzz Lightyear upgrades. The commitment to long-term fan requests like the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster, Villains, and keeping the Muppets alive at the parks and giving them a big new ride. Despite some gloom, it's an exciting time for Disney fans.

It seems like they're going to do a good job with the aesthetic blending here, but I'm still curious what exactly this ride is going to be like. RSR is a perfect blend of outdoor atmospheric exploration and indoor dark ride scenes, but nothing they've released so far has made me think we'll be getting something that elaborate in terms of show scenes.

Doesn't mean it won't still be a good ride, and I'm sure it'll be better than what they've got in Paris. But I wonder if this will feel like WDW vs DL Pirates.

This is a solid read - didn’t see it in there, but I’m curious if they’re shifting to a Test Track vehicle with the “fastest lap in the west” line. I remain dubious of those trackless vehicles being allowed to do anything more than golf cart speed.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm 95% sure there was an announcement/rumor that they ditched the trackless concept.

It's my understanding that they and everyone else around them came to the same conclusion about speed, especially when trying to create a rocky/adventurous terrain for the vehicle to traverse.

I had to hunt for BTM & NOT-SPLASH ...still perplexed by the placement, but it looks good. So I should be reincarnated twice by the time this is completed

I'm happy to see water along Frontierland and I can't help but think that was the result of feedback and concern. That's great, fans spoke out, and maybe Disney listened. All good.

I'm really happy to see trees in Frontierland that may be within the walkways, that would help capture the northwest woodsy DCA Grizzly Peak vibe and offer shade.

Also excited to see Tom Sawyer island-like suspension/barrel bridges:

Some remaining concerns are:
  • Are we going to see cars racing along the opposite side of that river from Frontierland, or will the cars be behind rockwork?
  • Is that National Park sign going to be right outside the Haunted Mansion?
  • What is this? Not concerned, but haven't been this curious since The Foam Berm at Epic Universe. :nervous:

Well, mystery solved. I think. This weird rockwork is...Spark Plug Peaks (or some name like that). Note, the spark-pluggy look can only be seen from the Cars side, not Tiana's.

It's going to be on a track, yes.

This is the kind of extra effort that I really appreciate.

Hopefully they deliver on it.

I had not kept up on any announcements or rumors, last I knew was the video of the Imagineers riding around their BMX track.

I’m guessing the backside of the spark plug mountains will look like a salt dome or whatever they claim Tiana’s is.

Can we use our collective brain power to reverse-engineer this pun? Between "J Autobon Woodlore" and "Front-Tire Land", these rocks definitely have some silly name they're itching to pitch to us.

The revamped concept art looks pretty darn good to me, I do appreciate they've been able to incorporate part of the river into the design, so that can help a ton with the overall aesthetics and vibe of the area.

Now I will agree it's strange seeing a walking path right alongside the Haunted Mansion like that as it's been isolated for so long, but I do acknowledge the path is needed to lead to the eventual Villian's land and help make sure the area is fully connected with no dead ends.

I'm hoping they're planning for trees right along the side of the Haunted Mansion queue, to separate it from that new walking path, and the concept art (either version) just doesn't show that view.

Some are saying they want a completely redesigned HM queue.

Do you agree ?

A HM queue redesign is a necessity since it consistently leaks out into the rest of Liberty Square. They use a decent chunk of the RoA waterfront for HM queue (where the planned pathway between HM and Big Thunder will go), so I expect an expanded HM queue as part of this project.

It's still to be seen what this will do to the park aesthetically, but this should benefit crowd flow tremendously.
