I also think spoiling a vast amount of the character reveal moments in your big Avengers team-up is a pretty desperate move, especially since it also potentially spoils the story of Thunderbolts in the process. (There's only one character from that film that isn't on the A;DD cast list? hmmmm :eyes:). Not that the good team-up films from Phases 1-3 relied on those reveals. Frankly, no film should rely on those. These aren't 2 minute Smash Bros character trailers; they're multi-hour, million dollar budget films. You don't get to have a Cap Hammer moment every other film.

It feels like a decision by a company that has no faith in it's smaller films to draw an audience anymore and is banking on the big one to reclaim some amount of it's lost relevance. It's the same mindset that makes Red Hulk the main marketing pitch, while the movie is structured like a mystery film with that being the big reveal. It's all just desperation now.

The same type of desperation tactic employed revealing RDJ as Doom.
Could you imagine a world where we DIDN'T know he was going to be there? The reveal?
I mourn for the plot.

It's called Doomsday but looks like AvX ft. Thunderbolts and F4.
It makes me feel that Doom's whole 'implied masterful deception'-thing is just going to be getting everyone to fight each other while he gets to whatever MacGuffin(Loki?) while everyone else is distracted. Idk. On paper i don't think it sounds really masterful or deceptive but without Spidey/Strange there, it might be, especially if he strolls in with people who look like previous deceased Avengers like Cap and Widow but they're also playing pretend.

Spidey and Strange being nowhere to be seen despite Strange being crucial to this multi-verse BS(Where's Charlize Theron's chair?) and Spidey having a movie between Doomsday and Secret Wars strikes me as... a choice. But maybe it's all towards the Hickman's 'life-raft' IYKYK. Maybe that also explains missing more people we expected like Ruffalo, Renner, Pratt, Cheadle, Larson, Olsen or others we expected like Tobey, Andrew, Hugh, Ryan and further alludes more toward the rumors of Snipes coming back to play Blade again, Tom Hardy coming over as Venom, and Nic Cage's GR passing on D&W to opt for Secret Wars, amongst a sea of other rumors.

There's still a long list of people not accounted for and there's no way all of them are being saved for Secret Wars.
And now i'm sad that some cool ones just don't seem to be making the cut. I was really hoping we'd see Moon Knight, some Defenders, some Eternals, freakin' TED(Man-Thing)...
My expectations are high. I'm clearly setting myself up for disappointment. lol

I've always maintained that Endgame was such a peak moment that will never be topped, and it's clear that's the case. We're a year away from the next Avengers, with just one movie to go until then and the excitement for the next level of characters just hasn't been there for me. People like US Agent, Shang Chi, Sentry, etc., and even this current version of Bucky just ain't gonna cut it. You would also think that since Steve Rogers was such a beloved character, they'd do a better job at building up new Captain America, yet his movie revolved around the Eternals, a movie that came and went, and a 15 year old Hulk movie everybody forgot about, while the current version of Hulk has been completely MIA, The multiverse will also end up doing more harm than good in the end. While the nostalgia works sometimes like in Deadpool and Wolverine, it just means there are zero stakes now when it comes to people living and dying. I haven't seen the original X-Men movies in years but i'm pretty sure Cyclops is DEAD dead, and it also feels like Professor X has died like 3 or 4 different times over the last 2 decades, but now they can just bring everybody back at anytime because 'multiverse'.

While a lot of what you said is incredibly accurate and i concur in similar sentiment, i do wanna say that i think they're doing X-men 97 era X-men and that shouldn't be misconstrued with any other X-men we've previously seen translated to film. Kelsey Grammar's Beast had the 97 look in The Marvels. Gambit looked like 97 in D&W. Prof X looked like 97 in MoM; But even your point gets proven cause HE died in that.

Hugh wore the yellow suit a la 97 in D&W too. I just think it's going to be more of 'that.' These are not the same characters. They're just the same actors. Like you said, because multiverse. It'll scratch the nostalgia itch for sure, but it'll present something bordering on imitation-new. On one hand, imagining McKellan, Cummings, and Marsden in comic-accurate X-men suits for the first time on film is incredibly exciting. And then i remember how much i hated MoM and i get sad all over again.

Part of the problem is Marvel picked up and dropped multiple storylines at random despite occurring at the same time. Some of the movies and shows were treated as self-contained stories detached from a larger story arc.

Leading into Endgame almost every movie pointed to it indirectly or directly, or events in one affected the ones that came after. Everything was connected and added alternative perspectives of the same events leading into the finale. We as the audience knew where it was headed.

Ever since it seems like most shows and movies are left to their own devices without that central storyline to guide them and when they finally do it it's feels forced and too late to make the audience feel engaged or care. C'mon, a Celestial is sticking out of the planet and it may have well not have existed because nearly none of the shows or movies addressed it and its ramifications.

I want to be excited about the next Avengers movies but is that excitement enough to get met into the theater or will I just wait until it streams online? It could go either way for me at the moment.

I loved X-Men 97 so i would be onboard with this, but my idea of what they'll do was much more simple: Have the entire X2 cast show up just to get wiped out by Doom LOL

Had zero interest in this movie due to the Ironman DOOM casting.. yea yea, I know the story exists in one of the comics somewhere.. but overall, D&W was the only Marvel movie to entice me to watch since Spidey 3 (?) & Doctor Strange 2

The fact that this damn movie dangled returning XMEN in my face is low. They are the ONLY reason I'll see it.

it would tie down to the wolverine from Deadpool 3. he mentioned his team dying without his help.
maybe the x men team that doom takes out is that team wolverine talked about. which means that they could also Have colorful costumes

I don't think Rocket is gonna be in Doomsday and that really bums me out.

I would hope for NEW Guardians re-appearance and to meet up with Quill in Secret Wars but i honestly don't think it's happening. I think Guardians are -sadly- out and we're gonna see a more Earth-centric/Multi-verse centric story with a focus on teams PRE-Doom and POST-Doom coming together to stop Doom in whatever Battleworld he creates for Secret Wars and that's it. It's already going to be over-stuffed with people coming from all over; I don't think anything cosmic is coming into play here.

Presumably Mando's taking their spot, unless they want to be absolutely annihilated by GTA.

I actually find this move kind of annoying because, barring the pandemic exception of Spider-Man, there's usually more breathing room for smaller movies to make money over the holidays, or for dubious blockbusters to leg out into bigger hits. Plopping an Avengers movie in the middle of that risks taking all the air out of the room.

In my eyes, if they simply wanted to give the movie more time to cook, they could've shifted the release date from May to November. Moving the release date to December, at least to me, indicates that Disney wants to counteract a lower interest in the brand with reliable legs for movies released over the holiday season and a less competitive January marketplace.

That december opening is when 5 of the top 10 movies of all time opened. That's THE prime movie opening window.

Yeah, it's hard to say Spider-Man was an exception when Star Wars and Avatar (and even recently Mufasa) have repeatedly proven that December releases can have really long legs. Even films like Greatest Showman and Puss in Boots 2 were able to hold their own against those franchises.

I also assume it's making room for people who are busy elsewhere (Holland) to be given ample time for filming and subsequent reshoots.

What I'm trying to say is that typically an Avengers movie doesn't need that kind of opening window to become one of the biggest movies of all time.
