Also, have people commented in these forums that the single rider line for the Mario Kart ride seems to take a lot longer than it really does because they will hold the line right inside the building (slightly before they pass out the visors)? If you are standing in the single rider queue outside on the second level in front of the castle, you might be there for 10 or 15 minutes and the queue does not move at all.
But this doesn't mean that the SR line is not moving. It's that a Universal team member is holding the single rider line so that there are fewer people waiting in the last part of the queue.

I honestly don't see the point of doing this, except to make it seem like the line is not moving very quickly and to try to discourage people from standing in that line. The first several times I encountered this, I gave up and went back out the front -- I figured the SR line was barely moving and it wasn't worth the wait. I have also seen other people give up on the queue after waiting for a few minutes.

I was at the park on Monday (May 15) morning at opening, which was 9 am. The early entry time for Super Nintendo World was 8 am. As I expected, they were letting people through the turnstiles into the park early and holding us in front of Springfield until 9 am.

What I didn't expect was that they were limiting people going down the StarWay to using only the far right escalator (even though two escalators were functioning going down). No one was allowed to go down the stairs, either. I asked why this was, and the Team Member said it was to control capacity of people going to Nintendo World. As a result, there was a big mass of people bunched up at the top of the escalators to squeeze onto the far right escalator.

Also, when we got to the Transformers building and the entrance to Super Nintendo World, only visitors with Express Tickets (and maybe Platinum Passes?) were allowed to go straight to the tunnel. Everyone else was put into the Transformers extended queue where we waited for 5 or 10 minutes before they started letting people in. I was near the front, so I don't know if they let everyone in the queue without further delay, or if they continued to hold the queue after a certain number of people had entered.

I've gotten used to the fact that the Super Nintendo early access ticket will give you the one hour priority access to the land, but I'm also used to the idea that visiting a theme park means that having a general ticket or pass will mean you can enter an area (like Galaxy's Edge or Nintendo World) at the same time as everyone else. Universal is basically treating entry into Nintendo World like a premium experience that having the Express ticket gives you priority access for, even first thing in the morning when the park opens to all park visitors.

On one hand, I could see why they'd be doing this given the land's hype, but at the same time it feels arbitrary.

Yeah, they do hold it a bit before the visors, and I don't understand why they're doing this either. What you said about how they do this to artificially inflate the line seems plausible, but at the same time there's something about that that feels more trouble than it's worth. Maybe they shouldn't do that if crowds are REALLY low. Key word being maybe.

I had been waffling about whether or not to get the early access ticket add-on for my trip in September, but this recent discussion has dispelled any hesitancy. It sounds like it's kind of necessary if I want to even have a chance to avoid experiencing the land (and even getting into it) totally swamped.

Yeah, I've heard it's well worth the money and hustle to get there in time for it. Looking forward to seeing how much of a world of a difference it'll be for my trip next week

I think SR is only really worth it if you catch it near opening or right before they close it for the day (which seems to be about an hour before close).

So I guess its because the ride has such a long line but why do people not use the Mummy/Transformers/Potters/Jurassic single rider?

Like I've seen these rides get hour lines and no one is in the single rider Q, do they just assume only MK has single rider?

I remember when Galaxy’s Edge first opened, I waited in the Single Rider line for Millennium Falcon that was all the way down the stairs, took over 30 minutes. Never waited that long since.

If it's shiny and new, and doesn't have other options to skip the line, Single Rider will back up, that's my hypothesis

Mummy's SR can back up on a busy day, which is why I think they close it on those now. Jurassic's is on and off but once it fills they close it for a bit. Transformer's can be pretty empty but on my most recent trip it was slammed with families much like MK. Potter is almost always fast and empty pretty much.

The reason they do this is to keep the walkway between the ADA elevator and visor cleaning station clear of guests in the Single Rider queue.

Well that explains a lot. Though beforehand, they held it right before the visors, but on my visit yesterday, it was the bit that's near the standby queue's doors before that point. Both are before both the cleaning station and the ADA elevator walkway, but then again, the placement could also be for that aforementioned tactic of inflating the SR line.

As for data regarding stalls, I went on the ride 4 times, and two of those rides had a stall, but the second time I got a stall was very brief.

Also on an unrelated note, I tried the Shortrib yesterday. Was pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's worth the price?
For now, Luigi burger remains my favorite so far for the value and personal preference. Those Truffle Fries are one of the best fries I ever had in my life, especially in tandem with the pesto.

The reason they are holding where they are is to allow Team members, particularly VIP tour guides, to go ahead of their guest and collect the visors for them. If the visor distribution room is full, they will cut through the Single Rider queue and pick up from the Single Rider visor distribution and be at the preshow doors with visors to give to their guests. It also allows Team Members operating the attraction to bypass the visor distribution room if it's full of guests and allows for easy access to the preshow rooms.

Lemme preface this with how I wanna see more characters as much as the next guy, but I just think time will tell with the rest of Team Mario, since that'd be unprecedented across the iterations of the land. Toad's just something from Japan that they couldn't have at the start.
