From what I heard Chapek was supposed to be at Dodgers Stadium that night on stage introducing Elton John on Disney+ before he found out the news.

One big number is to cut down the amount of money being poured into new content for Disney +. That's the black hole. Even Netflix saw the error of this and has cut new content investment drastically....Disney has plenty of film and TV catalogue, underused, that they can use.....One constant in the film and tv industry over the decades is that it's extremely difficult to predict whether a new tv series, or a new movie, will succeed, and be profitable. The success rate , in reality, is miniscule. A pure crapshoot. Chapek was throwing too much money against the wall and hoping it would stick. History shows that doesn't ever work. Cut the black hole new content money, and the balance sheet will get better. Streaming will never be the blessing the optimists thought. People can only watch, or want to watch, so much stuff. Investors are finally seeing the error of the overt optimism, and it's time for Disney to accept the reality too. Disney + will only end up as another contributing division, if handled with common business sense, not the division that the entire company revolves around.

In the streaming era it seems I'm personally sifting through the bad to find a hint of good, and I'm pretty easy to get pulled into a good story

Companies acting surprised when bad writing and stories present bad results will never cease to be hilarious to me

The truth is Disney just hasn't been turning out content that is "great"

Also, let's not pretend like releases during Iger 1.0 were all that spectacular either

I forgot to add “before he got fired” to make it even more ridiculous.

Examples:
Star Wars as a whole (sans Mando and Kenobi)
Marvel stuff has been lackluster post-End Game (sans Spiderman)
Pixar has been extremely weak as of late

That's basically their entire cinematic bread and butter

It's not "ALL BAD OMGZ DISNEY IS DEAD" but it's also not even close to the heights of what it could be

Historically...Toughest business to guess success has always been film and tv. Even good quality doesn't necessarily translate into success. I used the word crapshoot previously. That's an apt description.
That's why throwing a lot of money at productions doesn't mean much. The Hollywood streets are littered with the TV shows that failed and movies that bombed, or didn't make profits. Successes are actually quite rare
in that business, and a good reason to limit spending before it kills your business. Streaming is a very risky business......as companies are finding out after they take the rose colored glasses off. .

IDK about risky, more so oversaturated

I think that may be part of their issue

A good current example of this is Andor. Extremely high quality, but it’s not seeing widespread success to match the level of quality.

Yep. and....so many critically loved TV series ,over the years, cancelled early without finding an audience...... and critically acclaimed films lost money. It's tough
to predict what the public will like, in massive enough numbers, to make profits. No one has ever found a crystal ball that can accurately predict, in meaningful numbers,
winners and losers.

I believe he actually was there, along with Daniel and other top brass. Also in attendance was Peter Rice from reports I've heard.

I think a lot of that is subjective to the viewer, but that is just my two cents.

Lots of talk on CNBC with various analysts, and so far it's mostly talk, about Apple buying Disney..............and when there's that much talk, somewhere interest has been expressed.....There has to be some consolidation in the streaming companies.
There's way too many, and it's tough to make profits when there's that many major players. Markets almost always sort themselves out when this happens..Sometimes just divisions, not entire companies, spun off...It's not very often that the government plays the anti trust card anymore.

The parks ride on their ability to tie into IP that people love, so I highly doubt they'd get rid of them in a sale or merger. With how small Apple is within the theatrical, I could see it squeaking past the Anti-trust regulatory hurdles.

Also in terms of size, Apple is huuuuuuuge in terms of company value vs Disney right now. Apple is worth $2.4 trillion vs. Disney $200 billion rounding up. If they merged in an all-stock deal, Disney would only be worth about 7% of the combined values. Their stock price has been hammered and that made it vulnerable vs the value of the company and the content it holds the keys to.

CNBC says a lot of things. Apple can kick the tires but the DOJ is no longer effing around when it comes to antitrust. If they're tying up Activision + Microsoft, they'll find a way to tie up Apple and Disney. I could see several potential arguments off the bat: fewer streamers willing to buy projects, which was the argument used to block Penguin + Simon & Schuster and which is pertinent because Disney is either the largest or second largest streamer in the world, or potential favoritism of Disney apps on Apple's appstore, which Apple has been dinged for in the past and which Congress is trying to regulate Amazon for.

Yes....plus Disney has all that debt from the Fox acquisition. That's always a looming factor. And Iger, sure knows haw to talk up acquisitions, so I'm sure he could work the other end just as well.

Debt is always a reason for concern, but when you look at Apple, they pulled in almost $400 billion in revenue this year and had about $100 billion in net income. Disney has $50 billion in debt, so if it was an all-stock deal, they could handle the all of Disney's debt in a year if they chose to. If they financed the acquisition, obviously different story but the scale is there.

However, would Iger really want to come in only to sell the company? Stock shoots down 50% after his great run (stock performance-wise), and then he comes back for a quick-ish sale? I'm not so sure.
