I agree. Practically everyone I know views Universal as a "maybe once a year" park because there's nothing dynamic in terms of actual rides. Barring Wizarding World and maybe SLOP, practically the entire upper lot is a "once and done" experience: KFP, Minion Mayhem, Simpsons... even Animal Actors and Waterworld don't necessarily provide anything new once you've seen them. Same with the Studio Tour at this point, really. First-timers/vacationers are going to view it all fresh, and diehard AP holders are going to come regardless, but that huge population of general parkgoers in between want dynamic ride experiences, which simply isn't possible when the bulk of their day is just... sitting watching something in front of them. Sitting for KFP. Sitting for MM. Sitting to watch a show. Sitting for Simpsons. And to a degree, sitting for the Studio Tour.

Even the lower lot on a good day can be finished in an hour, and even then, I've heard people lament how Mummy is way too short (which it is) or how Transformers - despite being an actual ride compared to the upper lot stuff - is just not that exciting anymore because it's just another screen-based experience in a park too full of them as it is.

Universal could throw a new, crazy event each week to try to draw people in, but it'd still be like swapping paint on a used car. It may look different, maybe even flashier, but behind the wheel, it'd still be the same fundamental experience, one where no amount of food and drinks or special theming and so on would hide the fact that throughout the day, guests would still be experiencing the same old screen-based stuff that burnt them out and keeps them away in the first place. SLOP was a good step in the right direction, and SNW is going to be a nice shot in the arm, but I'd imagine only for so long, when the rest of the park remains the same; hopefully after it's open, they start going all in on what's next, because it's long past time.

Thye could easily change transformers by filming a new movie for it.

As an AP its not just price because the AP's are fairly prices even the best one is fair compared to what Disney is offering

It's the lack of events....hell Florida is getting escape rooms for BTTF and Jurassic.....and here in hollywood we got nothing. Like I doubt this summer we even get a new light show...we will get the cool one with the drones maybe but as an AP they just are letting us down with events and even if you dont want to compare it to other parks literally USH just 3 years ago was doing really cool events and now Grinchmas has a tree lighting and two meet and greets.....thats it.

I hope Nintendo land does well enough for the people in charge to try harder, like cool if HTOYD gets a movie in the dreamworks theater in 2024 but you need more use the walking dead space, french area, move the tram loading area....something just do something else besides giving us a ten min movie in 2024 to draw in guests

I wasn’t aware that the AP prices were more reasonable, so fair enough. Good call on the events too, I was at Knott’s during the Peanuts Celebration and even though it was nothing crazy it was still neat. Universal can print money by doing Potter events more than anything. Heck, if they wanted to they could also repurpose DreamWorks Theater into a space to allow more limited time attractions based on events and current popularity. Doesn’t USJ do something similar that allows them to easily rotate out different attractions based on different animes? They are going to need to find ways to keep people coming back for something other than Potter and Mario.

Another complaint I hear from my friends who aren't avid park-goers is that USH "has too many virtual rides" and the "rides are slow and boring". I understand they want to appeal to families, but I think USH should try to put a coaster in whatever way they kind. Once Mummy is on the chopping block, it should be for a coaster.

I have no clue if the size can match, but I could see Universal just replacing Mummy with the Donkey Kong mine coaster. If that happens then Transformers sticks out like a sore thumb though.

I think they’re gonna have to do better than DK to replace mummy because apparently that’s just gonna be a family coaster but way less in intensity than hagrid’s (i guess a little more intense than the snow white coaster in disney world) which sounds not thrilling even though those levels in DKC are fun. Just bring hagrid’s jurassic world edition.

I’m not sure if this is for sure or not, but I’m not sure a thrilling outdoor coaster at USH is realistic with the active filming constantly going on not wanting coaster screams in the background. I think whatever replaces Mummy stays indoors and considering Universal has taken a clone heavy strategy with rides, I could see them just doing a version of the DK coaster even if it’s a shortened version of the Japan/EU one. Their version of Mummy was a short one already to begin with.

I only say a Hagrids type coaster might have somewhat of a chance since it isn’t Velocicoaster/Hulk level big, has/could have indoor/sound shielded portions, and is close to the ground. DK is majority outdoors portions too with just show scenes indoors if that leak of the layout was real. I would prefer a different, indoor version of DK tbh.

I think an external thrill coaster of some kind is possible--but it'd likely require a lot of red tape, and a lot of ways to reduce sounds (from not just the vehicles, tracks, and supports, but also people).

Once again though, as @Clive mentioned: that feels like something that can be discussed elsewhere (As we are in the SNW thread).

Donkey Kong might be troublesome here with the noise but, there’s so many options for GOOD indoor coasters, just requires a taller show building and multiple layers of track. All the Space Mountains, Tron, Cosmic Rewind, Aerosmith, and others, show you just need to put walls around the track and supports. You’re still able to achieve a long and thrilling coaster that people actually want to visit the park again and again. The mummy building isn't tall and can house up to 2 levels of track. Hopefully Donkey Kong and future coasters in the park take this into consideration.

I went around a month ago and was shocked at how dead the park was. Personally, I think pricing is an issue. Of all the parks I did in California (USH, Disneyland, KBF), I easily got my worst value from Universal. Almost as much money as Disney without anywhere near the attractions. If they dropped the price they might get more traffic. Also, from talking to people in SoCal most people were pretty uninterested in Universal and were either into Disney or wanted to ride coasters with friends at Knott’s or Six Flags. They need better value and a way to win over locals.

As for Nintendo, it’s going to draw crowds for a bit and it will end up just as dead as Hollywood’s wizarding world shortly after. Especially when Orlando opens a better version of it. It will be huge for the park in that will print money in merchandise but I’m not sure how much it really draws extra people to the park long term. They need to start investing in exclusive experiences at that park to draw people instead of cloning everything if they want to draw tourists and they need to find a way to offer more thrills to draw locals. It’s all tough with the lack of space though.

Once the tourists from Asia return, the place will be plenty packed. Universal Hollywood has never been as busy as Disneyland with So Cal locals.

I still think its really time for Universal to build a glistening new studio off site and make most of the backlot theme park space. (I know that's extremely unlikely since they are building new soundstages as we speak haha)

Pretty sure studios are still more profitable than the theme parks. But the new soundstages being built will allow them to tear down old ones for theme park expansion, which will be nice

Well yeah I figured that I just wish they would build a brand new studio somewhere in the valley or Santa Clarita

Still confused how this ties to Nintendo.

I would've loved to see that proposed Bullet Bill steeplechase concept that was in the pitch.

Super Nintendo World original concept art and details have been leaked

Over the past few weeks, computer renderings from Super Nintendo World’s original pitch found their way onto the Internet. And now, a new round of details and concept art have been leaked. Th…

The original pitch is still publicly found to this day. I genuinely think Bullet Bill would've made sense with Yoshi not present.

I'd literally have taken a moving walkway and you get to see the land from higher spots and they have Captain Toad and a small inside part with Mario Galaxy/Baby Mario over the nothing we are getting for a second attraction

It's still not confirmed that we aren't getting a second attraction. We just aren't getting Yoshi. I'm having a big "wait and see" mindset here because I have a feeling there will be something to make up for that/smaller land. There are some buildings jutting out of the land that could mean something, or they could just be powerband stuff. We'll see

I think there will be power band experiences, those buildings are quite deep/big and multi-leveled. Also how could universal say no to more merch sales too.

I’m more worried about the cool looking food in Japan being cut.

I can't imagine there won't be sit-down dining. A big part of these new lands that are big in space but few in ride-count is the amount of stuff they can sell in them, and food is a big part of that. Butterbeer made Universal a ton of money, this is USH's next opportunity to get some of that
