Yeah, was about to mention we still got 10 years with the thing. Hulk lasted 17ish years, RockIt opened in 2009 so it's currently in it's mid-life.

Hulk and RockIt will be the only coasters Universal wants with metal detectors. I'm sure once RockIt becomes unbearable to maintain they will probably rework the layout to avoid guest areas at all costs.

I'll put money on the JP coaster not having metal detectors

Mt. Prometheus is the central icon that’s meant to be seen much like Cinderella Castle. Raging Spirits is themed as a mine train which last I checked need tracks in reality to work so nothing is out of theme. When it comes to Dragon Challenge, well, point me to a scene in the movies or a page of the books where such a mass of steel looms over Hogsmeade.

I’ll wait.

Then I change my answer to Flounder's Flying Fish Coaster

But Raging Spirits is themed to an archaeological exploration of ancient ruins. That kind of thing doesn’t require a looping mine train to excavate in real life. And personally, I think most rides could stand to spend less time justifying their existence. There's a mass of steel because it's a ride. I don't need some airtight reason explaining why the Haunted Mansion is filled with Doom Buggies. Movies don't come up with an in-story reason to justify why they're cutting to different camera angles (unless it's found footage, I guess). We just accept that the unnatural device is necessary to the experience.

I get the sense that some would hate if the new park included rides like Hulk or Dueling Dragons, and if I were betting, I'd say there won't be any. But in their original incarnations, they were both wonderfully themed experiences where the queues built to a single emotion or conflict that the guests got to experience through the coaster. It may be a little more abstract than some would like, but in spite of the marvelous engineering involved, parks are dreamscapes where emotion rules over left-brain thinking.

It’s most likely going to go over guest pathways, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t?

Universal is not stupid. They are smart enough to avoid going over guest pathways. IF they do in fact go over, I'm sure there will be tons of themed elements to protect guests (not nets).

The only chance I can see of something of the sorts in regards to a dueling coaster, is if it would be highly themed and with no inversions. And, if they have to go over guest pathways, that they'd cover the bottoms to reduce the amount of crap falling to the ground.

Otherwise, I don't see it happening; at all.

But aren’t there steel coasters in other parks that have been running much longer and without replacement?

....there’s almost no room in JP. Other than over the water, where else could it go?

It’s not going to be exclusively over the water. Plus, you also have to account for the queue.

Repairs, replacing track, seasonal downtime, not running the rides into the ground, etc

But they don't operate as much as they do here in Florida. Uni runs its rides non-stop with little to no breaks. Not too mention that the Florida weather makes it a bit more difficult.

They’ll put the queue under cover, if I’m a betting man. And most of the coaster will be over the water, and won’t travel over any guest pathways.

To be honest, I don’t think Universal cares about these things as much as everyone thinks they do. They probably couldn’t care less about metal detectors.

And probably close off part of the guest area down in front of Discovery Center near lagoon.

I can assure you, they very much do. It means that the coaster they're operating is a liability. Parks like this want as little liability as possible.

Considering how much of a hassle it was for Hogsmeade, and how the hulk queue got reworked with the metal detectors in mind; I would respectfully disagree.

Yes, but it is dependant on how hard they run them and the type of maintenance they do.
