Where would that expansion go, hm?

If Uni gets the use of Pokémon (I definitely see it happening btw), they'll find room.

I see a lot of people poo-pooing Pokémon in this thread as "not as much of a draw as Mario", which is nuts. Mario definitely has more cross generational appeal, but for the 30 and under crowd, Pokémon is arguably a bigger deal. Just look at the 3DS software sales chart and the top selling franchises in gaming history

You just have to look at what happened when Pokemon Go was launched...

The societal equivalent of disappointing sex? A whole lot of anticipation, a moment of absolute excitement, then ending with boredom and no climax?

FWIW, Nintendo announced a Nintendo Direct event (online stream where they show off new stuff) on this coming Wednesday. It'll be 45 minutes long, which is longer than their E3 Nintendo Direct. I wouldn't expect any parks announcements, but you never know.

(I'll be ten different kinds of shocked if there's parks announcements).

Apple is also having their iPhone keynote tomorrow. Apple has had a tendency of announcing popular third-party iPhone apps at their keynotes lately. The iPhone 7 launch announced Mario Run, their past WWDC announced Monument Valley 2. There's a remote possibility we could see the upcoming Animal Crossing mobile game announced tomorrow. If so, that shows that Animal Crossing is a surprisingly popular IP.

That is an exceptionally long Direct. I'm not saying we're getting theme park stuff...but yea that is exceptionally long.

The only thing Nintendo specifically mentioned is Super Mario Odyssey. I could see them talking a lot about that.

I would think that the event would mostly revolve around games coming out soon. E3 talked a lot about games that are a year or more out.

There's not all that much coming out in the next few months though. Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem Warriors is basically it

Is the Direct from Japan or NOA? If it's from Japan I can see no theme parks.

I have no reason to believe that there has been any significant changes to SNW@USF.

The tweet came from NOA's Twitter + the announcement is on nintendo.com. I'm assuming that means it's from NOA? (I honestly don't know how the whole NOA vs. Japan thing works)

Japan also tweeted of a Direct occurring on Wednesday.

Honestly, I would think if any news comes for SNW; it will be from the Japanese direct. But that I could see them wait till 2019 for Osaka news.

I honestly don't see SNW getting any news in a Direct until 2019 at earliest. The only way I could see SNW being covered in Wednesday's direct is if they announce some sort of new multimedia partnership with say, Netflix or Hulu, and while doing so they announce a few other upcoming non-game projects such as the Universal Studios partnership. But otherwise, I don't see it happening.

This is a whole tangent, but I don't see Nintendo announcing parks info from their end.

For all of Universal's outside IPs, they seem to handle the marketing. I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

To be fair, Nintendo kind-of dropped the Nintendo news well before Universal did for SNW. I would expect if they would do anything SNW Related, it will be from Nintendo of Japan's part and not Nintendo of America in the future.

UOR has a lot happening before Nintendo. I'm pretty sure they have said all they are going to say about it for a while. Like over a year. The next hint that it's happening is KidZone will close.

I admire those who still have sources. Mine are as friendly as ever, but they have clammed up on info. The only inside info I have received, is that firings for leaks and horrid judgement has increased considerably within marketing and UC.

Thank goodness I loaded up on stuff before the hammer fell. ;)

I honestly don't think we'll hear about solid Nintendo details until 2019 at the earliest

I wish the old HTF threads existed. There was a huge debate back in the day surrounding Pokémon potentially being the future Kidzone franchise (long before Nintendo was known).

All sorts of aggressive statements about its relevancy. A little ironic in a post Pokémon Go world.

If a franchise can blow up four or five different mediums (video games, TV, trading card games, social phone games) over the period of 2 decades, yes it could also blow up in a theme park. Very few franchises have transcended multiple mediums in the same way. A movie and the tie-in toy aisle is not the same thing. Star Wars and Potter are two such special properties, I believe Pokémon fits that bill.

Yup. I think, outside of Mario and Star Wars, which are already coming, Pokémon and LOTR are the last monster IPs left to build.
