I think if any DreamWorks IP would be able to successful, it would by HTTYD - I think it did well enough; but I agree with your point that DreamWorks may be done in theme parks.

Oh I think HTTDY would have been superb...but I think we've missed the opening with it.

I would kill for Berk. Seriously. Universal could remove anything currently in their parks and, if Berk was replacing it, I'd be thrilled.

Agreed. The excitement for the second film died really quickly. Even on the merch side, which is key when it comes to a good theme park IP. I mean 6 months after the 2nd one came out you could barely find any merch or party supplies. You compare this with Minions which was not a great movie, but merch is still out there and being bought and it is over 6 months later.

Remember some of Disney's most popular rides are based of obscure things so why not Universal use song of the sea for the most visually appealing dark ride as they already have the rights? I mean it easily could be universal's pirates/splash mountain. Riding on a boat with haunting gaelic music playing in the background as you want an AA girl turn from human into a seal and see trolls turn to stone

Disney hasn't built a ride based on obscure property since like 1992

What about Expedition:Everest? It definitely isn't any media property of Disney.

"Obscure" and "Original" are two different things.

You could say it's loosely based off the Matterhorn. I think it's kind of sad that Disney aren't making 'original' rides any more because the ones they have made have all been classics.

That just sums up Disney recently.

I mean, Universal hasn't done an original concept since Lost Continent, so that's a two-way street

That's actually a great point. I've never thought about it like that. I don't know if Disaster could have counted as an original ride. I know it's a remodel of Earthquake but the story was original.

I think the difference is that Disney has had a great track record with original rides but not so much Universal.

That was never Universal's thing though...I mean, the original motto was "Ride the Movies."

It was Universal Studio's motto which is a park based on movies. Islands of Adventure was a bit more open though.

If we're talking about original concepts, I don't know where Volcano Bay falls into all this.

Big missed opportunity not theming it to Waterworld, Titanic, or Life of Pi if you ask me....

But that volcano erupting is sure going to look impressive to tourists traveling to Disney on I-4.:)
