I genuinely hope not, pulling Evil Dead Burn will result in something slapped together and the movie actually has a lot of great house potential.

Eh, obviously not ideal, but for all of the IPs to get pulled, I would rather it be Evil Dead Burn. If this is true, I’m not gonna lose sleep over it, especially since the latest movie was kinda mid.

I’m curious to know what the replacement will be if this is true.

I'd be pretty shocked if EDB got pulled - but if it did, I wonder about the possibility of it being converted into just an Evil Dead Mashup along the lines of Legacy of Leatherface?

The rumblings I have heard this week indicated that one of the IP's not announced had been pulled. This leads me to believe that EDB is not happening... No word on the replacement yet. But what do I know...?

A few people on the Discord asked my thoughts on this. So, I’m just going to repost:

“I haven’t heard anything from my sources about it (though they’re all trying to figure out if it’s true). I’ve seen the rumblings though, and I think it’s sourced in spec. The only reason I’ve seen presented for “why” is because the movie is bombing. Frankly, that’s not enough of a reason to ditch a pretty much done house. WB has no incentive to pull it from Universal, and the costs for Universal to rush a replacement are so high, I could never imagine that being enough.

Now, there *IS* a possibility that Universal lost *AN* IP… and that IP would potentially be Terrifier. There are actually valid reasons for Universal to not use that anymore.

A number of people just don’t want EDB there.”

Hi all! Haven’t posted in quite some time but still been lurking all throughout spec season. Regarding Evil Dead, I have a theory…I got the impression from marketing, and even more so after seeing the movie, that the “main” Deadite’s appearance was intentionally kept hidden until the film. I’m wondering if this Deadite is featured in the preview merch, such as being the collectible figure for the carousel display, and Universal has held off on the house reveal until the movie has been out long enough to avoid spoiling that? Just a thought at least!

Funny to hear an IP might have got pulled. I actually first heard this earlier last week but with the chaos I put no thought to it. I don’t think it’s EDB tho. With Evil Dead’s track record at HHNO(being pulled because of the delay and the next year we didn’t get while HHNH did) people probably assumed it was EDB. Then the box office just added fuel to the fire.

Agreed, a film having very mixed reviews, not the biggest of debuts and quite possibly the worst second weekend drop in its franchise is not the kind of thing that'll get a house pulled when it's already been built. What it'll possibly do is have less of a draw from the G.P. and shorter lines than the other IP's. And of course, I have to say possibly since brand recognition is very much a thing it could still get a sizable draw. The same can be said for Stranger Things, yes, it had an awful last season, but it could still pack the crowds in. We just have to wait and see how things shake out.

If it is pulled it's not because of it's performance. It would be because of issues with the rights. Legacy has said this time and time again. Same thing happened with Scream and Game of Thrones

What are the reasons for losing Terrifier?

I'm with @Legacy that if an IP has been lost, Terrifier/Art the Clown makes the most sense considering there's a justifiable reason on why it would get pulled.

For those who don't know, a lawsuit has been filed by Ruthless Studios who're accusing Dark Age Cinema and Art the Clown LLC of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, unfair competition and most notably, improperly profiteering from the Terrifier franchise without their approval. Short of the long, they claim Damien Leone transferred the rights to them back in 2013.

And since licensing the character out to a event would absolutely fall under the umbrella of making profit of the character/franchise, it makes a ton of sense Universal would not want to get involved with using the character.

Ugh. If an IP has been pulled I sure hope it’s not Ozzy. The shenanigans with the Spotify advertising worries me about the possibility of another more nefarious explanation outside of what has been assumed.

To be honest, the rumbles I heard could have been about Terrifier, but my brain did not register that because I know people have been cast specifically for that role... Of course, there have been people cast for all the houses (and zones) too, so there is that. The way it was worded to me implied a house, but that was not overtly stated, and they may not have known which IP, only AN IP. Nothing is nothing until announced, and even then, things can change.

The other rumbling I heard is that the Fortnight announcement may not be traditional, and may be announced IN GAME instead of by Universal.

Yeah, casting doesn’t necessarily mean an IP is safe. Scream was cast and roles were actually delivered before the Purge replacement happened. They basically created/picked characters for the Purge house using the performers they already had.

If there’s any “plus” to potentially losing Art this late, and in the planned delivery, it’s that generic clowns seem like it would still fit the zone. It’s just a bit unfair for performers specifically cast for such a unique character.
