I mean the work force has dramatically changed in 20 tears

Look up how many people out of college are getting jobs, look at how many need two jobs to support themselves

It was easier to buy things 20 years ago compared to now, inflation is crazy and gas effected everything in life

Like now it cost more to eat and more to rent, meaning less money for gaming for most people

Video games are in the worst spot since I was a kid. Just no wins......consoles are near 1,000 bucks and GTA is 80 bucks with no disc. I just Miss the PS3/360 and PS4 generations so bad

This is why I’m not hesitating on the Steam Machine. It’s only going to get higher. Not only am I selling my Steam Deck for it which will make it “cheaper,” I also fully expect the vast majority of games for the foreseeable future to be made highly scalable to lower end hardware like it. With all the uncertainty in the industry concerning layoffs and studio closures does anyone think these companies are chomping at the bit to make games that can only run on the PS6 and XBOX Helix? Two consoles that will most definitely cost over $1,000 and possibly approaching closer to $1,500? People were annoyed with how long the PS4 and XBOX One “held games back,” now they’ll be thankful when the PS5 does it and the XBOX Series X|S as well.

Say what you want about some of Nintendo’s practices. One thing you can’t say is that they don’t treat their developers right.

It’s finally happening. Nintendo will be the last hold out because they still have around half of their sales come from physical.

Yeah, I just might not be into gaming in a few years

I want to own my poop, I just got Star fox physical and planning the same for all my switch 2 first party games....heck I was going to get Wolrine on Disc and now...its like do I even want to support Sony?
The company was peak from mild PS3-PS4 generation and now....I don't even know what to say it sucks and makes me almost just want to get into PC gaming if I have to go all digtial anyway

Like why do I need a PS6? It won't even play my Bluerays and I guess Spiderman new game but I'm not spending 1,000 bucks on a system even for Spiderman

First, buy your physical first party Switch 2 games from Walmart or Amazon. They price match the cheaper digital versions.

Second, the best we can hope for on the PS6 is that it’s compatible with the PS5 external blu ray drive for backwards compatibility.

I'm not as outraged over the "ownership" part of this news. I haven't bought a physical game in probably a decade.

The biggest issue with this will be Sony's (and Microsoft's) complete control over game pricing. This is clearly going to blow up the entire used game market and with it, deep discounts on games that are years and years old.

While this isn't a shocking update, it's a real disappointment. I have always been a huge physical media person when it comes to movies, music, and games. Between this, cost, and IMO a lackluster lifecycle of the PS5, I am not sure what this means for me as far as the next gen consoles go.

Unless you’re big on Sony’s first party output PC would be the way to go.

Yeah, I'm not a PC gamer but I might become one now

Why would I buy a 1,000 dollar PS6, I bet it won't have a disc drive so will be harder to play older games and no blueray.

Luckily because most people are poor like me and because devs can barley push the the PS5 Power to the fulliest, I don't think next gen will have many real exclusives unless they just want to lose millions to billions

I used to be a big physical media guy, and It definitely sucks that the choice is being taken away from people who still buy physical, but the writing was on the wall years ago. I still have every console I've ever owned going back to the NES (and they all still work), but when I'm in the mood to play a retro game I just pull out my retro handheld full of emulators. I still have a big DVD/BR collection including dozens of 3D Blu-rays I can no longer watch (LOL) but 95% of the time I'm streaming the movie I want to watch. Convenience is a big factor with digital. Games are no longer just "put the disc in and play", it's "download the ENTIRE GAME to the console first along with a day one patch".

Someone had a stat for that its 73 percent of games are still plug in and play

So for me, this is all bad and saying the writing was on the wall, maybe even next gen but now? It makes zero sense its just going to kill Gamefly, you can't get them at Libraries and will make games just cost more because of less sales

If your cool with it fine but no need to make excuses for billion dollar companies, this just sucks and will make gaming just less accessible to millions of people. There are some countries that ban or censor games now there are wayyyy less ways to get around that

This is just anti costumer and to save a few pennies, I hope this kills Playstation. I'm sorry not loyal to a brand that just works for shareholders, I hope the PS6 and next Xbox lose a ton of money if they have no discs

The 73% stat i highly doubt.

Just out of curious what is you gaming platform of choice (now and after Sony & Xbox drop discs)?

My issue with digital games is it's not that much more convenient. Storage size limitations is such an issue. PS5 i can have 5 or so games installed before I have to delete them. Then spend an hour or more if I want to play them again by redownloading.

Not sure where you got that stat from, but the vast majority of Xbox/PS games require the game be downloaded even if you own the disc, going back to the previous generation. This has nothing to do with making excuses for billion dollar companies, as I already had no plans to buy a PS6, disc drive or not, due to next gen consoles likely being priced at $1K. I was speaking for me personally why I prefer digital games now over physical, and I also said I did not like the fact that the choice is going to be taken away from people.

I have all three consoles

I use PS5 as my main, Xbox is for Game pass and Switch is for Nintendo games and games that go on sale that I want to replay on a trip

You said you don't buy discs, so not sure what your talking about.

All the games I've gotten this gen are disc's and not just downloads, Sonic, Dragon Age, Sony exclusives
