Where disclosure day is good or not, I hope we can all agree the trailers aren’t helping get people to watch it

Like take out who directed it and this movie would have zero traction at all

I’ll probably just watch it when it comes to streaming, the reviews are so hit or miss. I assume it’s a film I could really get bored with, so I’ll just wait

I've been too busy to find out that reviews are mixed and people are disappointed before I saw it last night. I thought I was going to fall asleep before it started because... it'd been a day. :lmao: But once the movie started, I was locked in. Pretty enthralled actually.

It takes zero time to get going and I was just curious about the why/what the entire time until the ending, which I thought was bold. Emily Blunt is just a force of an actress. I don't think she's ever been better than here. I hope she's not forgotten when Oscar time rolls around.

I saw it in IMAX, which not sure it was totally necessary considering the aspect ratio but picture and sound were excellent. I will say it was... nice to see an original story, that caused our group to debate some of the themes, what certain things meant, etc.

If you're expecting a summer blockbuster like Spielberg himself helped create (or in my case.. something more along the lines of War of the Worlds), this isn't that. But I REALLY enjoyed this little thriller. I recommend you go see it.

I was not a fan of Disclosure Day.
The script and essence of the movie felt like a CW 2000s TV show.

The CGI was awful for a Spielberg movie, particularly the train/car crash and animals.

The story used generic and very dated tropes we've seen done hundreds of times in other media. Just one example: the woman had the emotional powers and the man had logic powers; it's obvious and dull.

There were dozens of weird things that happened. Why didn't they jump out of the car before crashing into the train? Why didn't the bad guys just shoot them? Why didn't they blindfold the girl while they were sleeping? How did the networks immediately know the footage wasn't fake?

Also, why are we OK with a weird alien groomer?

Loved Disclosure Day.

Sure there are some messy bits. But some of the criticisms I have seen about this movie have to have come from people who watched it while playing on their phone or something.

I think this movie and your response to it has a lot more to do with the feelings it emits rather than the logic of it. And the last 30 minutes especially for me felt extremely significant and tapped into something I don't think I am quite smart enough to explain. But the themes of empathy, cynicism vs optimism, togetherness, TRUTH, memories... the movie is best when SS is doing his thing and reminding you why all of these things are important.

Even in all of the messiness, there is a ton of movie magic in Disclosure Day.

The problem with "Disclosure Day" is expectations - people thought it would be a sci-fi film about aliens. Its not. Its a mystery.chase film with aliens as the McGuffin and examines us, not the aliens.

This is the first review I've read calling her bad. Most have stated she's the best thing in the film (and I agree)

I've heard this before and maybe there's some truth for other people, but that wasn't the case for me. I don't watch trailers so my expectations were pretty much blank, aside from "maybe possibly about aliens, also it's Spielberg."

For me it wasn't necessarily her performance, but it was certainly the character and script/plot she's written into. Dan Murrell, who praised her performance, called the first act of the movie a "comedic performance" in his spoiler review. For Dan it works, for me it didn't. She was giving me Kirsten Wiig vibes, and it doesn't help that her use of powers was reminiscent of an SNL skit. Because I couldn't take any of the movie seriously (see my review calling it a CW show), I wasn't able to go from her goofy act 1 performance to acts 2/3 where we're supposed to take it more seriously.

And I'm not sure why for some movies like Obsession or with almost anything from James Gunn, that goofy/serious tone blending works for me, but other movies like The Longest Walk, it just doesn't.

EDIT:
I wanted to add one more spoiler plot hole that I haven't seen anyone mention:
Why didn't Daniel make back-ups of the data he stole? The idea that all of the data was just stored on a single source seems outdated. Like, upload it to the cloud, then threaten to release those files if you or the GF are killed/etc... easy get out of jail free card.
