Uhhh... does this count as a leak? Stated by an official show runner on The Simpsons.

It reads like a spoiler to me but...

isnt Simpsons closing soon? Are they just gonna send it off with a diff overlay?

Im actually surprised Universals doesnt do a "Horror" Overlay with their rides during the Halloween season

I mean, we’ve been asking this for years, but doesn’t that seem a little late in the game to do this?

Unless….they extended that contract? :eyes:

Considering a Treehouse of Horror overlay was planned along with the ride but never came to be, better late than never!

Dude this is HUGE. Who cares if it is leaving, at least they're doing something with it. I fear the lines for this will be insane, as it's already a slow loader. Hopefully it is just like a secret overlay for those who happen to show up and it stays unannounced. This has long been a sore bright spot of the event, so anyway they can spookify this section, even if it is just the ride on the actual inside, will help spread the Halloween further.

My read on his comments was that they’re going to add Halloween theming to Springfield, not necessarily that they’re introducing a new ride film. That would warrant a new preshow film, and he only mentions maybe messing with it. “Maybe messing with it” in the scenario I described sounds more like adding Treehouse of Horror clips on the monitors before the preshow.

I hope we get tree house of horrors

I’d take decorations and the Simpsons in costumes

If we get a movie that’s cool but it’s not up to these people but Disney and I don’t see why Disney would want this all this

it would be like letting islands of adventure update the land but that’s giving your competitors something to draw people away from you

But would love to be wrong and they go all out

As for extending the land, I just don’t see how it benefits universal. Universal has tons of classic Ips, new IPs, HP and Nintendo why would you as USH or Orlando want to keep a successful land around when you could put something you own or have a better contract with that would draw more guests?

I assume F&B sales in that location absolutely crush. I'm sure there's something appealing to Uni about keeping that money hose on without having to approve any new cap ex.

I have to think if Matt Selman is directly involved on some shape or form, that it still inheritedly asks quite a few questions in regards to the standing with Disney and Universal.

If it’s new content being made, does that mean it’s a new licensing contract? Even if it’s compilations; if your having to go through 20th Century Animation/TV that doesn’t feel like something you’d want to do right now as your nearing the end of your licensing contract.

With the sequel movie coming next year, it wouldn’t surprise me if Disney is okay with letting Universal do a little more, even just during HHN, if it means getting people talking about the IP again. Not like Disney’s gonna be able to do huge marketing for it in their parks like they would most anything else, so next best thing is to let Universal have some leeway in exciting people over the Simpsons if it means potentially getting more people in theaters when the time comes.

I don't think i see it on the Spec Map but I heard a rumor which I don't want to believe because it makes too much since but that Dreamworks would be a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Related show....only thing that makes me even post it is because we saw some Simpsons themed Spirit jerseys. So Maybe thats where the rumor could have come from.

Would like to bring up--props to @Jerroddragon for catching that early on a few weeks back.

It's always been interesting to me that Treehouse of Horror technically does have Universal presence... just in the form of a billboard at an eating area. Not meant as any proof for anything but something that's always tickled me

I think we're overestimating just how hands on "Disney" is really involved here. They're fine collecting their cut of the Simpsons food, beverage, merchandise, and licensing fees, and while I'm sure they've explored their options, it doesn't feel like they're actively looking to add the IP to their own parks right now.

The Simpsons, as an institution, still has a fair amount of weight to throw around, even if it isn't the red hot cultural juggernaut it once was. It could be literally as simple as them being like, "Hey, we really want to finally do something for Halloween. Can we make that happen?" How do you think that conversation goes if Disney stonewalls them because they don't want to give Universal seasonal decorations because it might, uh... compete with their own Halloween offerings, I guess? (Hell, we don't even know the particulars of that approval process. Disney might not even get a real say!)
