Why can’t Peter Pan ride system from Fantasy Springs work for a Zootopia ride? Doesn’t have to be a cop car, just retheme the vehicle and adjust scenes and story slightly from current ride. Zootopia has to be in the parks somewhere, it’s crazy that and Moana have nothing in the US minus a glorified (albeit well done) splash pad.

I’m so confused on the need for a water treatment facility if they built Avatar boat ride.

Is that a common precedent for water based attractions or just this particular one?

I love Avatar in Animal Kingdom, but now that the land is close to a decade old, it seems that Zootopia would be the better, and more popular with the general public, choice for DCA. And the need for water treatment might be the ultimate deal breaker.

They could also, as a treat, commit the resources to fully staffing their maintenance department so a third of their rides aren't down at any given time.

I would make a special trip to see a unique Avatar land at California Adventure.

I don't think I'd even walk into a cloned Zootopia land, much less prioritize traveling to see it.

I won’t be upset if they switch out Avatar for something else but I think the Monsters Inc Door Coaster would be the far better choice. DCA needs a coaster! I can understand why they’d go with Zootopia though. I would rather get Avatar as that would be something we haven’t seen yet.

See, I think the fact that these permits have been filed now is a good indicator that Avatar is still the plan. Every "rumor" (that seem to spur from a former Imagineer's opinion and no actual insider information) wants to point out F&A's boxoffice as a reasoning... But we are just a few months out from that film's run. It's extremely unlikely that Disney evaluated the films boxoffice, shifted course to a completely different IP, redesigned the land and then file the demolition permits for said new land all in the matter of 2-3 months. If anything, all the Monsters Inc ride closure move now shows is that they are likely staggering project construction out more in the park for the sake of budget and attraction capacity.

And as a side note, I find it funny seeing places report on "Disney looking on how to make Avatar 4&5 Cheaper" as a sudden big headline when Cameron himself was saying since before the release of Fire And Ash that he needed to make 4&5 cheaper or he wouldn't be making them. Why are they treating 7-8 month old information like it's some kind of big revelation?

I have no insider info, and am only guessing. But it seems a lot of this that we've seen and heard the past month coincides with Iger stepping down as CEO. Things sometimes happen at that confluence of management and projects.

You're not wrong, but if major changes were happening, we wouldn't be getting permits filed for the project right now. Now it could change, and we could get a big announcement at D23... But until that happens, IMO this all seems more like a lot of copieum happening from those who simply don't want Avatar at DCA.
