Raiders > Temple > Last Crusade > 1st 2/3rds of KOTCS > Big Gulf > Dial of Destiny > Big Gulf > Rest of KOTCS

If we're counting Great Circle, then that goes somewhere between Crusade and the first half of KOTCS for me.

Spielberg should never touch CGI environments again unless it's a Tintin movie.

For justification of my Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opinions, I am playing my stalwart Gen Z card, which I find to be quite useful for more wholistic appraisals of maligned legacy sequels to Gen X classics.

It isn't great, in my opinion, and relies way too much on trying to gross us out. Plus, the blond woman is annoying. Really annoying. However, Crystal Skull is pretty bad and I have not bothered with Dial of Destiny.

Temple of Doom rips. My favorite in the series and a ~Top 50 all time for me. Admittedly a lot of that is nostalgia but I think on a technical level you can’t deny it’s some of Spielberg’s best work (not just the action setpieces but the intro musical number is a really unique and unnecessary flair) and the most masterful integration of music with on-screen action that I’ve seen in a movie.

Dial of Destiny is worth watching for the last 20-30 minutes alone. It takes a massive swing that is totally bonkers.

God yes thank you. That film has solid production design and some fun adventure-y moments (thank you Temple of Doom for giving us Mine Cart Madness), but the rest of it is overly campy, simple to a fault, and shockingly problematic. It takes all of the worst elements of '40s serials that literally-perfect film Raiders purposefully dodges and dives right in. It has far more in common with Crystal Skull than I think a lot of people are willing to admit, it's just that they weren't kids when they watched the latter. Crusade was a great return to form after ... that haha.

Yeah, it's goofy to a fault ... and really, really racist. Like, really racist. It doesn't help that (IMO) none of the supporting characters are any fun. I think it's very similar to what we saw with the Star Wars Prequels and, uh, again with the Sequels.

Anyway, in my ranking it's Raiders, Crusade, Destiny, Skull, Doom, but Crusade is definitely my favorite.

I think this describes the whole movie. Spielberg is doing wild stuff just to amuse himself, and it's awesome.

Also, maybe the greatest shot of a hero in any movie ever:

I love Crusade but Raiders got my top notch due to being the first. However, Crusade had some of the absolute best lines of the series. I just hope Disney does an interesting story for the ride and doesn't overthing it.

I have a certain soft spot for Doom since it was the first Jones film I saw as a kid. It also scared the crap out of me. The other films in the trilogy have better overall narratives and are probably better movies, but I still enjoy the absolute crazy mess of Doom. I mean eating bugs, pulling hearts out of chests , the bridge , and mine cart action sequences are some of the most memorable scenes in the trilogy. Even the Shanghai intro is fun. Still not sure how they survived jumping out of a plane with a life boat though.

Theme park connection here: the sound designer, Ben Burtt, recorded the sound of the Disneyland Space Mountain and Big Thunder to get the right "high-speed screeching rail cars" sound for the sequence.

I don't really care what film the attraction may be loosely based on. I just want a fun, entertaining ride that's not super dark like Dinosaur was. I liked Dinosaur, but even the recent refurb/upgrade was way too dark, and it was tough to see anything.

The level of darkness of the Indy ride in Disneyland would be perfect. Not overlit, still creepy, but you can see all the sets.

Based on the very few things we've heard from Imagineers working on the project, I'm expecting a fully original story.
