Polls!!

I feel like polls are underutilized! I remember on older forums back in the late '00s and early '10s, monthly polls were common on the forum sidebar. I'd love to see a system like that put in place for the main forum page here!

Polls are already implemented as an option when making a new thread, but they are deincentivized by being included as the same kind of thread as everything else, so making a poll just to gauge community sentiment feels like spam or like they're clogging up the major boards. So, the few polls that do currently exist have already been responded to years ago.

I would love to see a new board devoted to these poll threads where people can make simpler threads to gauge people's thoughts on a subject, without the expectation of making a thread that should be active for years, and without diluting the main areas of discussion and activity for the forum.

The problem with polls on IU is that the participation numbers of fairly active forum members is very small, so the vote
totals when they have polls, reflect that, which makes the results kind of meaningless. Plus the demographics of participating
forum posters is so out of whack with the general population.
