Not unusual for a new attraction. Generally, there's pros and cons, over expectations, and under expectations. With these popular IP attractions, lots of over expectations affect people's opinions. Sometimes it takes a few rides to get a true, longer lasting, feeling.

Something I've been starting to see consistently in recent POVs (and it happened on my last visit (June 10th)), Umbridge's carousel that turns her away hasn't been working, so the animatronic just goes dark and t-poses. While of course not supposed to happen, it is very funny!

I also want to add that initial reactions from those that ride first can set high expectations that the ride can never meet.

A lot of people (whether they actually believed it or wanted the clout of being able to say they rode it) were shouting from the rooftops of how it was the best dark ride ever conceived.

Yes, too high expectations are often a factor to the detriment of initial ride enjoyment . As I mentioned before, my first rides on Mummy, and JPRA were not so great because my 'expectations' from previous reviews were way too high. I felt let down....But after a few rides on both, my expectations were more down to earth....and now...those are two of my favorite attractions.....Funny how that happens.

I can confirm that a physical swinging pendulum in the time continuum scene is now fully functioning.

I just don't understand what you're talking about. What pacing/identity issues? Also how was it obvious that this ride had a troubled development? I don't believe that at all and it just seems like you're pulling things out of nowhere. I respect your opinion but I really don't understand it. To me this ride feels more cohesive than the other HP rides.

I'm gonna really try to not make this post any longer than it needs to be haha. :nervous:

Also, before someone says something: Asterisk ***We don't "know" 100% that this is the case, but it has been heavily rumored for years by a lot of reputable people.
  • We know* that the land itself had some weird development hurdles, like the sudden transition away from Fantastic Beasts and back towards the traditional Potter franchise, leading to a land that acts like it takes place in Wizarding Paris, but in most proposed projects for the land just ends up transporting you somewhere more interesting like the British Ministry, or a Quidditch match or Great Hall dinner at Hogwarts.
  • We also know* that Ministry was originally a USF ride, was originally trackless, and was moved over to Epic sometime in the late 2010s-early Pandemic.
  • I feel like some of that weird transitionary design-work shows in the finished product. I just don't see Battle having a Magical Creatures scene if it was built in USF, and honestly, I think it would be better for it. Umbridge and the Ministry don't really have anything to do with Magical Creatures, they don't appear again, and the effects are mostly the same from other attractions. The Erumpent is basically the Hydro-Man sewer scene into a Kong head animatronic effect.
  • On a different note, the ride system clearly had a ton of trouble in development. It was just straight up not working for an incredibly long-time, even through TM previews. I can't help but wonder if that's why the experience we got is little more than a Scoop with a slight more verticality. Maybe they wanted to pull off a bit more? With the Rocket Barrel launch effect over in DK being powered off, it shows that Universal isn't afraid to turn off effects or make some concessions to the planned ride experience to ensure smoother operations.

  • I think a lot of my issue stems from the ride being designed like the preshow scenes from other Potter attractions. We're staring at flat projected figures of Potter actors talking at us for a long time. It works fine for a preshow that takes place in a study or Hagrid's hut or something, but during the ride and as we are hurtling in magical elevators, the weirdly flat blocking and scene structure makes it feel ... kinda dull for me. A lot of the ride is built like this.
  • Compared to much less plot-focused rides like FJ and Hagrids, this ride has a lot less action, and I think it's worse for it. I don't believe the story that the ride prioritizes is all that interesting, and the ride experiences and agency that the rider has on the former two attractions is vastly superior. Fire-breathing dragons, stalking Dimentors, the Whomping Willow, Fluffy and the Weasley car, the deepest parts of the Forbidden Forest, and the tactile experience of riding in Hagrid's Motorbike; there's really nothing in Battle that actually tops any of that for me. It's a lot like the larger land; it's the crust of the pizza, or the B-sides that are kinda cool, but were left off of the initial few records for a reason. It doesn't portray any of the cool scenes from the Ministry in any interesting new ways, like the Dumbledore VS Voldemort battle, or the Dimentors reaching through the elevator grill.
  • As I said before, I also just think that the ride plays its' cards too quickly. The Floo effect into the Ministry Atrium is incredibly well-done; but it's too cool. For me, it writes a check that the ride itself isn't cool enough to actually cash. The peak of the experience is at the very start, and you're just seeing less cool stuff for the next 80 minutes that you're there. I believe Rise does much better work with similar scenes.
But that's all just me. If anyone here is really into Battle, that's honestly great! I'm glad you found something here that resonated. I wish I could say the same, but I am also glad to not feel pressured into waiting in that 90 minute long queue again haha.

I'll be in the 110 minute long Mine Kart Madness queue instead!!! :fire::hmph:

Gonna have to completely agree to disagree here. I know this ride has its share of haters, but i’m sorry in no way would I ever wait 110 minutes for DK over this cmon now lol. But I still respect your opinion, I myself was very disappointed by monsters for a variety of reasons and I get thats in the minority.

I’d give DK 30 mins and Ministry maybe an hour…realistically closer to 45. Neither queue is particularly enjoyable for that long

Rode the ride again this week and at the end the cast member said "Hold your enthusiasm" as our vehicle was basically silent coming into the station. As a harry potter fan I think the story is good enough. The ride just isn't thrilling at all in my opinion, to the point where I think its easily the lowest E ticket HP ride for me.

For the record, the DK comment was mostly meant as just a goof. Though, I do truthfully vastly prefer MKM to Battle, and I would be a good bit more willing to jump in an equally long line for it; but I do have issues with it too and I think both attractions will be unfortunately common skips on future trips.

For Mine Kart's issues, it does deliver at least a B-/ C Grade version of the promised innovative experience, and I appreciate that. It's also a property I'm far more invested in, which helps a lot too haha.

Having been able to ride this before once during the tail end of preview a few months ago (which included a shut down for a few minutes) my second ride this weekend was much better. I can say the experience on the ride with things like the pink mist in the elevator scene and the giant swinging pendulum made the ride more fun than last time. The ride did go down while in line for about 20 minutes though.

It did feel like the ride vehicle was more animated throughout the track compared to my first ride. The audio was clearer and I could better make out what everyone was saying. The AAs in the final scene again felt off like they were lower quality or something or perhaps it dips into uncanny valley too much. The final scene does feel abrupt.

All that said I don’t know if I could place this ride the top of the list out of all the HP rides. The queue runs a bit stale for that length of time, a similar problem the DK coaster queue has. One person I was with made the comment that waiting 2 hours for it didn’t seem worth it and I couldn't really disagree.

A few more practical effects would be nice. Not sure if there’s anything left that hasn’t been turned on by now though.

I had a similar experience this weekend too. As we pulled into the station the TM was clapping and asked “why is no one clapping?” which caused a few guests to give halfhearted sympathy claps.

Heck, Gringotts still gets lots of cheering when I've been on it....Not a great sign when guests seems quiet....Of course, two hours in line for any attraction is way tooooo long, and could dampen enthusiasm for sure.

In defense of the full ride, the final sequence from the photo spot to the Hermione elevator goes by really slowly, and it seems like it takes a while for your RV to actually reach unload.

But in general I’m not a dark ride clapper. Rise is basically the only ride I’ll maybe clap (Rise is not my favorite dark ride) but that’s because its final sequence is just so well-done.

Yeah ngl I never could understand the whole clapping after a ride thing lol. It's just pointless like what are you clapping for? The employees working the ride? If you really like it that much, you'll try to get back on right after or later in the day. I really enjoyed this ride though, and it really feels like a complete full experience. Maybe because I had my expectations lowered by some reviews, but it was easily my favorite dark ride at the park.

I like when the TMs clap for you. I'll then wave them away and am all like, "No need, no need. I defeat Megatron just about every time."

What usually happens isn’t the people clap at the end of the ride but do so when they get to the load station. Sometimes they’ll do it on their own, other times they’ll do it when the TM initiates it. That day the TM tried initiating it and it seemed like no one in my RV was having it until they said something.

Now there are some ride guests don’t usually clap like on MIB whereas you’ll often find it happening on Mummy or Gringotts, for example. I just find the anecdotes about guests’ after-ride enthusiasm (or lack of) interesting on this ride. Granted I’ve only been on this ride twice so my experience is hardly without flaw.

(For the record I am not a clapper either.)

End of a movie, after the plane lands…people clap for random things. It does feel like it gets philosophical because are they clapping because the TM did it first or because they liked it that much they couldn’t help but clap?

Seems like the ride has been down a real lot the last couple of days, according to Touring Plans downtime. I wonder what the present issue is.

If I was Universal, I would definitely not be into this. It just makes the entire situation really awkward and confrontational between the guests and the TM, especially after an incredibly long wait on the guests' part. Clapping when the plane lands is already a punchline; asking for it feels a lot more desperate. It's Six Flag's-y behavior.

Yes, its best if the guests do it spontaneously, unprompted. That's true satisfaction, not artificial.....Gringotts still gets some hate from the ultra coaster and ultra internet theme park fans. But the general public seems to love it. So often, and I've rode it a lot, the guests spontaneously, unprompted, clap or cheer. And I hear from first time riders exclaiming that it was a great ride, one of the best experiences.....I always give more weight to the GP's views on an attraction than the internet super fans. Views are at odds so very much. ...
.It'll be interesting to see the GP views on the Ministry attraction once stand by times become more normal. Waiting in super long lines definitely dampens the enthusiasm and love for attractions.
