They are sick as hell, I’ll give you that. The scale is also quite impressive. I just really didn’t enjoy it. :(

Someone waiting five hours in line probably is going to enjoy this a whole lot less than someone who essentially won the virtual queue lottery. We'll see some objective reviews once this thing starts running like it should, without crazy waits, delays, or VQ shenanigans.

At least add a DeathEater photo-op to fill the void. Or just have one wander the queue being a menace to guests

Universal: "sorry for the inconvenience, here's a free express pass to ride when it's up again"

Guest: "but I'm here on a one day ticket"

Universal: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hard truth is that it should probably still be a TM test & adjust ride and the guest opening should have been delayed until fall. I get that Uni didn’t want to delay the ride but this feels like Chapek opening Rise too soon — and Ministry is in worse shape than Rise was.

They're not going to delay and lose $$$$ because 1 ride out of 11 )plus 2 shows) isn't working, even if it is a headliner. Monsters, Mario are also headliners

Just watched a POV for the first time - how did they handle Harry, Ron and Hermoine in this ride? Are they CG? Are the voices AI or soundalikes?

I saw Mad Eye Moody in the queue also, is that new footage of Brendan Gleeson?

Time to stir the pot with my opinion on this land.

The attractions of MoM >>>> Diagon Alley

The land of Diagon Alley >>>>>> MoM

Admittedly I haven’t looked at the vast majority of windows in MoM for the little details but while the land is very nice looking and the scale of being 1:1 is impressive it also feels incredibly empty of feeling and almost too wide to me. I felt barely anything walking through it and it didn’t really draw me in to explore. I’m still trying to process the sheer scale of Battle as a ride. It’s truly next level even if I have a personal preference for Monsters. To be perfectly honest if they found a way to put the circus and Battle next to Diagon Alley at USF without Paris not much would’ve been lost to me imo and I would’ve been perfectly content.

The wait times got really short for this ride towards the end of the night. At least really short compared to the 5 hour waits during opening. Rode it twice in standby and single rider. Both waits were about an hour. Not too bad especially since it was all inside the building and not outside. Such a phenomenal ride still, I love it even more than I did originally. This and Unchained are neck in neck for me. Both masterpieces but in different ways

I found myself enjoying MoM more as a variation of the France pavilion at Epcot (with the French cuisine and lovely details like real flowers around the outdoor cafe seating) whereas Diagon Alley is very much a fantasy space that feels alive and compels you to explore.

Admittedly I haven’t had the food yet either. I’ll get the butterbeer crepe as my breakfast.

The crepe is tasty. The quiche lorraine and boeuf bourguignon at Café L’air De La Sirène were both rich and satisfying comfort foods even on the super-hot days of our visits.

No one knows — French is not a real language!

We were at Sirene and our server cracked us up because they said “bonjoooour” in a very French accent and then immediately followed up with a “how y’all doin” in a slight southern accent.

I’d bet the calculus that determines what percentage of the park does/doesn’t get to ride is pretty much the same either way, though.

Let’s assume a 500 pph capacity over 6 hours of operation (50% uptime over the course of the day). That’s 3,000 people that can ride in a day, or ~15% of the total attendance (assuming a pretty conservative 20k given the park’s size).

If I were to say Virtual Line would exclude 75% of the park’s guests, people would be annoyed…but that’s actually better than the scenario above.

And in the VL equation, everyone who doesn’t get a pass has the entire day to do whatever they want elsewhere throughout the park. In the standby mode, you still cannot guarantee someone will ride, but are going to waste up to half (or more) of their day in the process.

I know it’s a dumb thing to worry about but I think social media sentiment and the optics they create play a huge role in park operations these days. So I’ve gotta do my part to make the case for Virtual Line whenever I can :lmao:

Good point. The problem with VQ seems like it would come from the feel-bad aspect of the lottery...and that other people are getting more for their money because they're lucky (or they know tricks).

Maybe every regular guest should get 10 Priority Points and they can spend them to get access on...their priority attractions.

Fore example:
  • Ministry of Magic: cost 10 points
  • Mine Cart Madness and Monsters Unchained: cost 6 points
  • Curse of the Werewolf, Hiccups Winged Gliders: cost 4 points
  • Fyre Drill, Dragon Racers, Yoshi, Carousel: cost 2 points
(I'm just making these up, not reviewing data. But the idea would be that each point is valued at roughly about saving 15 minutes in queue.)

So, while people would still request to spend their points on MoM and get denied (that is, lose the lottery for capacity), they at least get to spend their points breezing onto other attractions instead, so it doesn't feel as outright unfair. And some people will forgo requesting to go on MoM at all because they decide they'd rather use their priority points on other rides, so they avoid the disappointment of losing the lottery altogether. Fewer people trying to win that lottery will boost the % of winners among those trying.

(Just an idea from someone thousands of miles away who doesn't totally understand or get to use these systems often but hears a lot of complaints.)

Currently waiting for my crepe and frozen butterbeer. The restaurant is very nice but sitting in this restaurant other than paintings (and obviously my order) there’s nothing that screams “Harry Potter” here. I’m starting to think this is just a consequence of moving away from the distinct style of Wizarding Britain. You could easily get the same quality in any other land you could build that’s set in Paris.

Agreed. The environment of MoM is insanely impressive, huge scale and ridiculously detailed, but I feel nothing for it. It lacks the creative spark of the other lands. Not a giant HP fan (but I like the rides well enough), so I’m not really one to peer into every window and read every poster on the wall, but Hogsmeade and Diagon are simply way more fun environments to be in imo.
