Happy to hear it.

Also agree with @UniversalRBLX that charging these prices for previews is setting people up for disappointment. If they were charging, say, $79 or so, I bet people would be more understanding of constant downtime... but it's hard to swallow spending $140+ only for 80% of the park's attractions to be down for non-weather-related reasons. Either ticketing needed to be more reasonable with their pricing, maintenance/Creative needed to be more upfront with their uptime expectations, or both.

With the prices being what they are and ticket availability being open to everyone, expectations for me were that they are basically viewing the park as being open now. If it’s $79 and only open to APs and hotel guests, that establishes completely different expectations.

Another frustrating thing is that the entire park seemed to be operating so well 1 to 2 weeks ago in comparison to the past few days.

FWIW, this is supposed to be how it works, but like I mentioned, they let me cancel and get a full refund due to the MoM closure. Your mileage may vary of course, but it was incredibly easy with no pushback once I said I couldn't do any other remaining preview dates.

Sorry, I missed your post. That’s very accommodating.

I have tickets for both the 9th and 10th, this coupled with the ride delays so far this week have me wondering if I should try and refund my May 10th ticket. (I already have 2 days booked in Sept as well).

I 100% agree with you, I’ve told everyone to not expect to do everything due to downtime, but there’s still that $140+ price tag that’s hard to justify when things are down for a good portion of the day.

Us fans who like the attention to detail, don’t care since roaming the lands are an attraction themselves. But the general public and average AP expects to ride & see shows at a theme park.

Pricing tickets at a lower price point makes it clear that you should expect only a portion of the park experience, not the full package.

That price tag is not going anywhere and the crowds are only going to increase. And add rain. :lmao:

I’m just surprised ops have gotten this much worse since passholder previews. I’m still going next week but I’m glad it’s the first thing we’re doing and we have VB/AK/MK afterwards in case we don’t get to do much so my friends aren’t as disappointed.

While I agree that $70-$80 probably was a better price point for previews, if people are going to pay $140, they’re going to sell them for $140. I was shocked so many people were buying them for that price when you can get tickets to the functional park for $30-$40 more.

Right, but if you know your park is likely to suffer massive technical issues like this, you also know that people are going to be rightfully upset when the price doesn't match the experience. I'm just puzzled who made the call to price it this high and if Creative/maintenance raised objections because they saw this coming.

Nothing to be done now, but Reddit right now is filled with damning reports. It's not a good look two weeks out.

Here’s the thing, I knew to expect delays, closures, etc.

When we walked into the park and were instantly hit with the disappointing news that Universal wouldn’t open Donkey Kong, I shrugged it off even though it was my most anticipated ride. When we had to exit the third queue of the day after only successfully going on two attractions (one of which was Yoshi lol), it was just too hard to shrug it off. Universal dropped the ball hard today. What makes it worse is despite the fact they knew almost nothing in the park was working, they still shut down one of the more popular attractions in the park (Toothless M&G) so they could do some filming. It shows how little they care about the guest experience and only care to convince as many people to come this summer as possible, even if they knew many will end up disappointed.

Also, beyond all the closures of attractions. I was very disappointed in the lack of shade and areas to cool off in this park. Walking around the bare areas of Celestial Park is AWFUL. Just the sun reflecting off the concrete roasting you alive with little to no places to step aside and relax. I brought my mom today and she was struggling badly in the heat and we struggled to find good areas to cool off.

Despite all the negativity, I will try and leave some positives to be fair. The park is gorgeous, everything looks incredible and pristine. Universal continues to show they are better than Disney at pure theming. However, they still have a lot of work to do in other areas. With two weeks until grand opening, I fear this park will get ripped to shreds by guests. We are two weeks away and nearly nothing worked today, if anything things seem to get worse as we approach GO day instead of better.

I guess if everyone wants good news, the shade issue is known and is being addressed.

Exactly. No question that Epic, when ready, will justify the $140+ price tag. But it’s obviously not ready and their ticketing team decided to push premium prices on a product that isn’t fully functional just yet.

That’s good. I’m not sure I can go back to this park until they fix it. It’s definitely a huge issue and I’m shocked Universal didn’t notice or think of it. But at least they are addressing the issue.

I feel these extended downtimes and planned closures are to ensure grand opening day will be as smooth as the first preview date was. The bad PR of an opening day plagued with issues is a fear that may be leading to lousy late-dare previews heading to the grand opening date—EXACTLY how the last week or so of TM previews saw extremely long downtimes and closures so that guest previews could start strong.

Just a theory.

FYI for anyone else attending these dates. I called Guest Services and they were able to make an exception & grant me a refund due to this closure. No pushback, no arguments, just a very simple refund process.

That’s really great. It’s not much, but it’s nice to see them overriding their own policy to make guests happy.

Expected problem, but the price point is definitely a big issue since it creates a perception in which guests expect better. Universal got a little greedy, it seems, but that's back firing. The big negative is that Universal spent so much on marketing and a lot of that is being usurped by bad reviews on social media.....I don't want to be smug, but this all comes with the wanting to be first instead of being patient and waiting until the park is complete and working smoothly. I wouldn't even have wanted to walk into Epic during the past two months. I did not expect a smooth preview by any means. I want my first impression to be a park that is at its best, and then I'll judge it on its real merits.

I think the bad review thing is being exaggerated just a tad.

The park has been firing on all cylinders the last couple of weeks. However at the moment not so much now which is very disappointing.

But overall if they are able to fix these issues sooner rather than later I think the goodwill among some fans will be restored.

If May 22 goes smoothly, or with only minor issues, this will all be for nothing.

I don’t know. My guess is the goal is opening week/month, not just a single day. I think if May 22 goes glass-smooth but the rest of the week is a disaster we hear more about the latter, not the former.

Well, yeah... Sorry, I thought that implied hoping everything would be good to go by May 22 - not just May 22.

I'm guessing most everything will be decent operations come opening day, though there's bound to be occasional downtime, especially with the highly technical attractions. Many guests probably had too high preview expectations because of the high priced tickets, that kind of signaled an almost ready to open park, even though that wasn't the case for a few very key high profile attractions. I'd bet that if Universal had it to do again, they would have priced the preview tickets much lower, and just had capacity limits. The extra money probably wasn't worth the bad reviews that resulted from guests thinking the park was ready to go due to regular pricing.

Genuinely asking, how is it fixed? Are they going string up horrible shade structures like Epcot used to have?
