I wrote a lengthy email to the guest services email provided but also made a short post on twitter tagging them and made a very short complaint via Facebook messenger to their official account. If this is to be believed, then it is still technically in “testing.” I’m not sure I buy that though and feel like they are saying this to get the complainers to back off.

I would suggest everyone in this thread email them or reach out to them as well, even is it’s just short. Like Alicia said, if enough complain, they may reverse course.

Right. Currently in “indefinite testing”.

Even though my twitter has just under 100 followers, the tweet I tagged Unviersal in has gotten over 100 likes and 10k views so at least a good amount of people are seeing it. I think best we can hope for is we just keep complaining and maybe they change it. I think they’re banking on the heat dying down and just saying they’re “testing” for now until people stop asking sadly.

Voice your concerns, but please don't overwhelm their inbox with it. One or 2 emails are all that's needed.

Except for The JAWS Ride... overwhelm them about that. They deserve to be punished.

Yeah for sure, I wasn’t saying I was gonna keep sending emails everyday or something. I was more saying the more people that can send an email/message/twitter post the better because the truth is that 1 email from 100 people makes a much larger impact than 100 emails from 1 person.

I personally liked FJ much more riding it without 3D. The glasses feel like they separate you from the moment. I probably would like Reign of Kong without.

Well FJ wasn't initially designed for 3D, Kong was. Kong's 3D adds "depth" for the ride... now it feels flat.

I guess that is an inherent problem with video-based rides. The desire to have depth through 3D adds other consequences.

I assume this attraction is still trash as they continue their "2-week test." No 3D and 18 months of no outdoor scene. A+

I rode this last week and I will say the no 3D was not nearly as bad as I thought. I still wish it had 3D but it still felt pretty good, especially if they get the outside portion running again. The screens are definitely brighter and look more high res without the glasses. The first scene was fine to me. The 2nd scene really hurt. Terrible warping as you turn in and that scene could use the 3d with the bug guts flying at you. Also Kate’s face looks really weird there. Like you can tell she’s a CGI character. Her face looks like it’s glitching in some sort of AI upscaling that’s not working. Tunnel scene still looks and feels very good but now without the glasses limiting your field of view you see the edge of the screens easier. I would say with the glasses the seat on either end was bad, but now without the glasses, basically the middle seat is the only good seat where you don’t see the edge of the screens. It was designed for 3D and I would prefer if it came back but surprisingly was not as bad as I thought without it. Just get the outside working again and I can live with it. To me minions is more egregious because that has some very obvious 3d shots where the depth is super exaggerated. Spider Man and Transformers do some of the crazy depth 3-D effects so it would be unforgivable if they ever remove the 3-D from either of them.

Just rode this and let me say this attraction NEEDS the 3D back. My main reason for that is the glasses atleast cut out your peripheral vision. In the 360 room I could notice everything around the screen clear as day. Was not impressed at all.

Okay so I rode this for the first time without the 3D and... I didn't hate it. I still feel like the actual Kong 360 section needs it because the 3D was actually good there. Also, there seemed to be some missing water effects too which really sold the dino chomps.

But man.. why were rooms 1 and 2 improvements without it? The 3D was so bad that it just looked like it was shoddy animation but it's actually pretty crisp?

Yes, I was seated on the left side and noticed no water effects, but I heard the people on the right side scream so I assume they got wet. My take is the left side of the Tram in this attraction gets no love. The right side gets the Bat animatronics, water effects, and the main attraction; the Kong animatronic. Also, am I crazy or do I remember shadows on the tran roof when Kate gets dragged away?! I swear years ago that was there but didnt notice it last time I rode.

There are supposed to be shadows on the roof, but I'm not sure they work very often. They've always been very hit or miss since opening.

Water effects weren't working when I was down there prior to the 3D removal in early 2024 as well (along with the motion base not syncing correctly at all in the 360 tunnel (Scene 5) for both my rides on different days. Our RV would swing left and right 1-2 seconds after the proper video cues.

Quick "status effects watch" for Skull Island: Reign of Kong:
  • Scene 1 (RVs bypass Scene 1 entirely at all times): Down for 409 days and counting
  • Scene 3: Shadow effects above RV Down
  • Scenes 4 & 5 (Water Effects): Inconsistent / Down
  • Scene 5 (360 Tunnel): Inconsistent motion platform syncing
  • Scenes 3, 4, 5: 3D Removed as a "2-week test" since February 25th (95 days and counting).
Anything else I'm missing? I thought they'd at least start working on scene 1 by now.

Are jungle scents at start of 360 scene still on at least?
