HOUSES:
1. Jason Universe - It’s been a long time since we’ve had a solo Friday maze, especially with one harking back to the originals. Excited to return to Crystal Lake!

2. Terrifier - I hate this IP but it’s the only thing here that truly feels like horror AND we haven’t seen before. Begrudgingly, it just might be the saving grace of the event.

3. Five Nights at Freddy’s - Conceptually this has potential to be fun. Or a dud. But my hope is this will be the Killer Klownz of the year with a nice blend of kitzchiness, comedy, and horror.

4. Monstrous 3 - The finale of the trilogy? My hope is they truly bring it. La Llorona’s repeat a few years ago didn’t really work for me, so I’m hoping there’s something new here to give it a bit more bite.

5. Fallout - Eh, this might work, and if anything, will hopefully have good set design.

6. The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks - I love WWE but I don’t think these characters (as they’re presented on WWE programming at least) have much to offer (they’ve literally been gone for most of the year). We’ll see what’s cooked up in here.

7. Terror Tram - This was my fav thing last year. I loved the layout and it has a lot of potential. Just seems lazy though in the grand scheme of the event filled with other repeats or lackluster IPs.

8. Poltergeist - There’s been a tiny bit of distance to it, my only hope is there is an improvement from the previous maze.

9. Scarecrow - This probably would be one spot higher if it wasn’t at Vegas but oh well.

ZONES:
1. Noche de Brujas - This street is always rocking and I like the witches concept. Should be fun.

2. Murder of Crowz - Sad it's not the lower lot, but should be fun with new characters.

3. Chainsaw Clownz - Honestly the NY Street has become so similar every year that it almost means nothing to me now, but resorting back to Clownz is a shame. At least there’s some tie in with Terrifier but cmon.

4. Carnival of Carnage - Entry zones always suck.

1) Five Nights at Freddy Hands down....it's going to have Animatronics, Puppets, great sets and might feel like walking through a Dark ride
2) Terrifier not a fan of the films but....I think its going to work well. Like it will be a PG version of the films and interested to see how they do it
3) Fallout Love the IP and excited for the Puppets and amazing costumes and hopefully some really great sets
4) Jason Excited we have one of the Big three back and its not a repeat house, should be a really fun time excited to see the sets and locations
5) Scarecrow I just hope the sound track works well with the house but I remember liking this house a few years back so hoping its still great,
6) Terror Tram - I never don't like the Terror tram and since its not just a repeat from last year and Insdious is coming makes me hope the house if even better then last year,
7) Monstrous 3, I enjoyed the last two houses and really hoping we get another podcast with the backstory for this house. They did a great job on that last year
8) Poltergeist I hear good things but no real hype for this one yet
9) The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks. I think this house will be wayyyyyyy more fun then I'm feeling it will be, I'm just not a fan of WWE or the people who own it so just no hype for me but once again very open for the house to surprise me...which I think it will.

ScareZones

Noche de Brujas I'm excited to see what kinda theming we get on the French street
Crowz Just for me these are USH mascots or at least big lore characters and love seeing them and their friends each year
Carnival of Carnage Please be creative and don't suck
Chainsaw Clownz Same as above

1. Terrifier- Murdy's bread and butter has always been taking iconic slashers and giving them a greatest hits approach to their franchises. Art the Clown is arguably the biggest slasher in decades, and none of his movies are difficult to translate to a haunted house setting. Hoping for tons of nasty gore, water effects, and Art and Co popping out of every hidey hole possible.

2. FNAF- One thing Hollywood actually excels in compared to our Orlando counterparts is the integration of puppets and animatronics in our haunts. Very excited to know they worked directly with Henson's studio to bring the full-scale characters to the event. Even if it's not scary, I think it'll be super cool as a walk through attraction for fans of the series.

3. Jason Universe- Murdy's strong suit yet again is his love of the classic slashers. This being another "greatest hits" approach to the Friday franchise means we'll see plenty of familiar gags and kills, but isn't that what everyone comes for in the first place?

4. Wyatt Sicks- I don't know anything about wrestling but I have looked up Bray Wyatt and this mythology. I know he wanted to be a part of HHN so badly and this is actually a very endearing tribute to him. The actual characters seem like they'll offer plenty of variety and scares, I'm just worried for any performers in this house who'll have meatheads stepping up to them all night.

5. Fallout- I watched the first season recently and think the settings and characters translate perfectly to a haunt. I'm just scared for Hollywood's ability to pull off these sets, hopefully I'm proven wrong.

6. Monstruous 3- Shouldn't this be called Fantasmas since it's all ghosts? Love La Llorona but talk about overexposed, I'm betting 60% of this maze will reuse sets and costumes from the previous iteration. That other horse headed ghost is literally just horse head La Llorona but with a new name, which is what this house really feels like.

7. Scarecrow- I was in the original cast back in 2022 and thought it was the best original concept Hollywood's done in a while, but I'm just not excited to see it return after only a couple of years.

8. Poltergeist- This was one of those miserable haunts from 2017-2021 that was just 60% black walls. Great finale but the endless black wall boo box scares is grating. Hoping to be proven wrong.

9. Tram- Such a waste of space, really wish we would stop doing it but whatever.

Mine is a bit screwy because I only started going back to Hollywood in 2023, so some of the repeats are less bothersome for me than others. I am also largely repeating the comments I made for the shared IP houses in the Orlando thread:

1. Terrifier – The first time I went to Halloween Horror Nights was in 2008 in Hollywood, when they had Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface, and the right IPs still have the ability to excite me like nothing else. Slasher movies are comfort food, and Terrifier really is the first major slasher franchise made by people of my generation, based on their love of the same movies I grew up watching. This is really a tight race between Terrifier and Jason Universe, but what gives this the slight edge is that Damien Leone and the filmmakers are involved here, so I think it will feel like the true Terrifier experience. Should be gnarly, funny, weird - exactly the mix of gore, extremity, and humor I like.

2. Jason Universe – Hand in hand with Terrifier - I always am thrilled when we get one of the OG slashers, and I can't believe we get two big slasher icons in one year. Jason Universe could easily go to #1 if it is handled properly, because the mythos of these movies - silly and generic as they are - is really deeply ingrained for me. Plus, Camp Blood was one of the first houses I ever did at HHN way back in 2008! I do have some concerns about the Jason Un1v3rse IP issue turning this a bit generic, but I think there is so much potential, and I am so excited we get Jason back.

3. Scarecrow – I fully understand why this might be at the very bottom of some people’s lists. I did not get to do Scarecrow in 2022, and so I am really excited to see Hollywood’s version of this house, notwithstanding the fact that a version will be in Vegas, that is a repeat, and that Slash seems like the wrong choice to score an eerie, Dust Bowl house. I think all of those are legitimate criticisms, but I am frankly feeling lucky to get the chance to do Hollywood’s Scarecrow firsthand. Plus, after TCM was easily my favorite house last year—in either Hollywood or Orlando—I have some residual fondness for the T-Pad location. J

4. Monstruous 3 – I could imagine this one slipping down the list, because the set of monsters they have this year are a little bit less exciting for me—there is no one who quite reaches the El Silbón or El Cucuy level in this trio—but right now, I am pretty excited for it. I found the first two Monstruous houses to be really strong (my second favorite each year in Hollywood, after Chucky and TCM), and so I have every reason to believe that this one will be really fun too. I fully understand if people are getting burned out on Monstruous, but I think that Hollywood’s version of the Cemetery of the Lost and everything is cozy, fun, and comfortingly familiar.

5. Poltergeist – As with Scarecrow, I could easily see this being lower if I had done the Hollywood version of Poltergeist. Since I did not get the chance, I think this will be a lot of fun to experience. Poltergeist is not one of my favorite classic horror films but it is a classic, and I look forward to experiencing the Hollywood version (though the dreaded black wall issue is certainly a potential negative).

6. WWE: The Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks - I am not a big wrestling fan, and so WWE would be my easy last place in most circumstances. If, for example, there was an actual wrestling ring and a lot of wrestling lore, it wouldn't be for me. But it seems like what they are doing instead is drawing on the mythology that Bray Wyatt created, and the designs of the Wyatt Sicks gives me very strong Rob Zombie / Firefly Family vibes, which is much more appealing. If this has the Louisiana cult aspect, the grimy Rob Zombie aesthetic, and the creepiness of the Fiend's Exorcist-like Let Me In demands, it could actually go much higher on my list.

7. Five Nights at Freddy's - The movie is really not very good, sanitizing the animatronics and injecting far too much plot into a very simple premise. While Matthew Lillard is one of my favorite actors, and he is awesome - so a Matthew Lillard stand-in and Springtrap villain are cool in my book - I worry this house is going to get muddled down by the movie's plot, especially since featuring a fake version of Josh Hutcherson and the ghost kids would be a way to save on budget but still follow the movie. With all that said, I am still excited, because I played the first game earlier this summer in anticipation of the house, and it was pretty good; if FNAF is closer to the original game - claustrophobic, uncanny valley, jump scares from the animatronics themselves - it could be really cool.

8. Fallout - I watched the TV show and enjoyed it, but I don't have a deep connection to the franchise. This is much more appealing to me than some of the IPs from recent years like A Quiet Place or Stranger Things, but it winds up on the bottom just because I think this is a very stacked year, and because I think the upper potential of this house is lower for me personally. I am excited for the monsters, but I tend to find post-apocalyptic houses a bit drab, and I have a feeling this one will have a lot of generic human scareactors - raiders, good guy characters, etc.

9. Terror Tram – The paradox of the Terror Tram is that I love that it exists as something different, but it is almost always one of the weaker offerings. I would definitely have preferred with the rumored Killer Klowns Tram or a kooky original like Exterminatorz to another Blumhouse run, so it’s hard to be all that excited. I do look forward to the fact that they are mixing it up, including with adding Indisious and Exorcist: Believer, so I am open to being surprised. I think Terror Tram will be fine, but the constant Blumhouse is not as exciting as other things would be.
