This is really accurate -- I know someone who went with her boyfriend last year, excited about Wizarding World. They spent the entire day at the park, and then when we hung out, I asked her what she thought of Jurassic World. She said, "There's a Jurassic World ride there?" Turns out they somehow didn't realize the Lower Lot was even a thing, which, again, I personally can't even fathom, but how you spent an entire day there without ever discovering that JW, Mummy, and Transformers exist is truly and utterly bizarre to me. And to your point, they just happened to ride Secret Life of Pets because it was there, too, and if it had been on the Lower Lot, they never would've given it a single thought.

I swear, I've even heard people in the park - both during the day and at HHN - go, "They have Harry Potter stuff here!?" while looking at a map while walking in or looking at the first wait time board or whatever, so even what's arguably "the big draw" somehow still goes under some people's radar.

LOL I also know of a lot of people that haven’t even realized there’s a lower lot. I remember when Wizarding Word opened I know of a few people who “Couldn’t wait to see the Harry Potter theme park in Disney World”

It baffles me how people will go out of their way to study places they want to travel to, but when it comes to theme parks, all basic research goes out the window.

I hate to say it, but I do get the complaints about this version of the land. Watching comparisons between Hollywood and Japan is night and day. Japan (and by extension, Orlando) feels a lot more organic with lots more to do and discover. A lot was cut from this version:
  • Casino mini-game
  • Music Blocks
  • Yoshi ride
  • The ENTIRE underground walkthrough section (Goomba screen mini-game, shrinking effect illusion, large blocks, Bob-OMB Key Challenge). This is arguably the most frustrating loss. Instead Hollywood has a weird, practically unused upper level
  • Mario Motors
  • Yoshi Snack Island
  • Pit Stop Popcorn
  • Extra binoculars
  • The bigger version of the 1-Up Store
The layout of the land in Japan, while crowded, also hides a lot from you by design. It feels like the longer you walk the more stuff you find to do. DK will just enhance this experience.

I imagine Orlando will be a lot better received.

I blame part of this on media, which has historically been horrendously bad at doing even the most basic research when it comes to reporting on theme parks. Ex. the number of times HP and now SNW are referred to as "theme parks" instead of lands.

Kind of a plot twist but have heard a lot of the early GP reaction has not been as expected. Many have cited disappointments with the interactivity and Mario Kart itself.

The ride getting low reviews ratings unfortunately doesn’t surprise me. I’ve found that a lot of people have a bad impression their first ride but to grow to love it after a couple extra rides. It’s a lot to take in, and therefore a lot to appreciate, all at once. The low ratings for interactivity does surprise me a little though, that’s unfortunate as I find it really fun.

Just gonna say that I would be shocked if they add interactivity now. They barely have time to finish the land let alone add to it. I do hope that some of the stuff they couldn’t finish in time gets added, and I’m curious if the cut Yoshi AA is part of that.

Also as someone who doesn’t like to watch POVs and enjoys being a bit surprised, I think it’s super respectable for some people to want to go in without any prior knowledge. Don’t really get that argument personally

Man I'm conflicted. As much as I had a great time during softs and just forgot about how we had a smaller version with how immersive it felt, I can't help but wonder how much of this would be alleviated if they tore down Panda and Studio café.

I'm no construction expert but could they even still do that once the park has expanded enough? I say that because probably closing off a part of the land would not help crowds. I'd imagine not though.

I’ve been on it a few times and noticed almost everyone that gets off/waiting to unload, didn’t seem too thrilled. They had that underwhelmed look or the “that’s it?” appearance. On re-rides it feel likes I’m forcing myself to like this ride after following the construction for so long and being hyped for Universal’s recent competitiveness against Disney. Don’t get me wrong, the tech is neat but at the end of every ride, I’m wishing there was more to it.

They need to run less vehicles on the ride.

This ride really suffers when there is a delay of any kind with the ride and lately, you can be stuck in a scene for several minutes at a time due to a back-up at one of the stations. The delays just kill the game play and the AR cohesion, as when there is a ride stop, the AR will continue onto a portion of the next scene before stopping. This problem just kills the ride's Rainbow Road finale, which is by far the most impressive part of the ride.

I think American audiences just have unrealistic expectations - especially with a Nintendo IP. I do think the interactive aspect disappointment stems from it being behind a paywall and being a little repetitive - especially the ? And Regular blocks.

I was exiting the park today (SNW was not open to guests, just TM previews) and saw they have a very large queue set up in the old Saddle Ranch site. It appears this is where APs will check in for preview days.

I hope it's just a preemptive measure and that check in will be easy once I get there on the 29th. Hope I don't regret signing up for a 10AM slot.

how is it possible that this is getting bad reviews? The ride has to be top 2 in park if not #1 and the land is a big deal for this park. sure it’s not japan, it’s not epic, but for this park, it has to still be considered a win. I’m not happy either that we are always going to have nintendo world lite but I’m so used to this park getting nothing (no hagrid, no velocicoaster, no diagon) that I’m just happy to have a major addition of any kind. This park has essentially made me suffer ever since bttf closed and now it finally has a glimmer of hope. I hope that reviews turn around because we need them to be pushed to expand this

There's a lot of questions I'm having now as I'm told more information regarding the lukewarm reception - especially as it isn't only limited to the GP (as far as the land goes)....

This would have been easily avoided if they had just done some sort of Mario adventure, versus Mario Kart.

Mario Kart has expectations that can’t be (or won’t be) met.

Well that’s a very interesting turn of events. I assume this means some fast-tracked plussing up for the land? Hope it doesn’t hinder future expansion

This wont have any impact on further expansion but I do think it will impact pre requisites for how the land is expanded upon and the presentability of it.

can someone translate? Who’s the posse(domestic) and why would they be unhappy?

If this alludes to higher ups at Universal Parks or Comcast, wouldn’t they have approved all plans for the USH version?

Based on “Mr. Bowser,” I’m assuming the posse is Nintendo of America?

Not dissing Hollywood, but this reaction, if true, makes me think they know they should’ve opened the full Orlando version first possibly. Just a hunch.
