Ya- if it was running 3 trains each at maximum capacity and efficiency the two coasters would push out ~3400 riders per hour.
The problem is- it was often walk on except for the front and back rows and it rarely had 3 trains going.

Even now- July 25th- 11:20am- the day after they announced its closing and to get your last rides in.... "5 min wait" on app which means walk on and not full trains.

So just having a long queue for the new ride would potentially "eat" more people. But if the land increases in size- with a couple more shops and some more spells and walk through areas- then capacity will likely be larger than D.C. Offered. And that's if we only get the one ride and small expansion. I'm not expecting them to use all 8 acres- I think they create a new expansion pad for future use.

You had to wait in line for a locker longer than you waited in line for the ride.

If they fixed the locker situation maybe I would be a little more sad to see it ago, but that just made me not even want to ride it. Good riddance.

Yeah, think the locker situation was what really killed this ride. Being forced to go through the locker to empty your pockets if you want multiple rides is going to turn people off.

Wait, that reminds me...I really hope they don't force the same locker situation into this ride.

I imagine the lockers will be a bigger area this time, and without metal detectors, like Gringotts/Mummy. So no bags, but pocket stuff okay.

I hate seeing DD go. Even though the new family attraction sounds interesting, losing 2 thrill coasters out of 3 kinda puts IOA in a different place on theme park perception. It'll definitely level the 2 parks, since there will not be much difference between the "type/thrill level" of rides between the two. So I guess in Sept 04th Sea World will automatically become the top thrill park in CFL, (taking a place next to it's brother park BGT "our FL version of cedar fair") which I am glad, they deserve it. While Universal keeps falling from a balanced park to a Disney family type of park. Not hating, I love UO but some priorities have changed for sure.

PS: Before anyone replies "it will be replace with a coaster" Gringotts was sold to us as a coaster and to me it's just a dark ride with some coaster features. Just because you put it on a coaster track does not make it automatically a coaster.

Would it be a smart move to move my 2018 universal trip to 2019?

I've always rented a locker for the day, so not a problem for me. Sucks for you though.

See, this is exactly my issue with this decision. UOR and IOA was the opposite of Disney when it opened. Mostly thrill rides, and fewer family rides.

I know they want to do more to "compete" with Disney, but I actually think being different is what worked in their favor.

I know this comment won't go over well on "these" boards, but UOR will NEVER beat Disney at it's own game. You may enjoy the park more, but it's never going to be "THE" park in Orlando. The best they can do is try and sway guests.
Considering Disney seems to be building some new rides that are tailored for Teens (SWL, GOTG, TRON), it may not be the best time to start building "family" rides and tearing down the thrilling rides that made the park popular in the first place. Plus Nintendoland is already on the way...

I realize this opinion may upset a few of you...

Wouldn't matter. If the Nintendo news comes down that its opening in say, 2020- then do you say "would it be smart to move my 2019 universal trip to 2020?" So much will be added between 2018-2022 that you could keep delaying every year for "bigger and better"- so I'd just stick with 2018 and whenever your next trip happens, it happens.

But it didn't. They were holding on for dear life. Potter- and the money and families that Potter brought is what saved them.

I agree that they should differentiate themselves- I also agree they'll never "out-Disney" Disney. They're going to have to find a way to differentiate themselves while going after the money- and the real money comes from families- not thrill seekers and annual passholders.

I would wait till 2019, perhaps a bit on the later end of 2019 just to be careful.

I think Universal management was torn between doing a 2019 or a 2020 opening. All the D23 stuff convinced them to do the fast track and keep the momentum going. I'm glad they stayed aggressive. That's the Comcast way.

The IP saved them for sure. However that IP also appealed to teenagers and families with older kids. I would still consider FJ a ride that is somewhat thrilling.

Adding another HP is a great idea, but closing one of their best coaster is not. At least in my opinion.

Well even though some of your opinions sounded like nails on a chalkboard, to not agree with you on this is to be a fanatic, and I'm not that, you are right. When it comes HP they had the whole plot of Fear Factor to become Ministry Of Magic, or I was even telling my partner about RotM how they could easily change the theme into Fantastic Beast "since it is already in NYC and the New Mummy didn't sound like it was good enough to update the ride" was it really necessary to take the dragons out now? and if the mission is a new ride for IOA.... I'm sorry but Poseidon's Show Building is pretty big. If something there needs love, it's Lost Continent. IDK maybe safety issue? I know they can make them duel again, they just don't want to.

I actually never thought they would pull the Dragons out, I always thought that if they were going to add a new HP or Beasts Ride it would be in the LC. Which is a huge chunk of theme park that's really only popular for its restaurant (which they could easily just re-name, and keep the exact same menu.

So I guess in the end I'm just disappointed we are getting a replacement of a perfectly fine and thrilling coaster INSTEAD of a brand new ride/themed area.

Also with the new metal detectors why couldn't they make them dueling again?

I had heard that DC had major maintainance issues that were requiring nearly daily work to keep it running. So an expensive rebuilt would have been the only alternative to what they are doing. May as well redo the area, add an attendance enhancer, & fix the sightlines, then put back together a coaster that had lost much of it's popularity, for one reason or another.

More Rides > Less Rides

It's almost as bad (not quite) as Disney announcing Tron coaster would replace Space Mountain.

To help with the small debate:

You were getting a DC closing regardless.

You got the Potter Coaster nugget because of D23.
