I really hate that the yeti is motionless. I feel like a lot of people actually do not even notice him, and the ride is basically centered on the myth of the yeti.

Oh so this is now the "complain about everything relating to Expedition Everest" thread? Yeah? Cool. Let me add to this:

I hate that stupid bell in the queue that everyone thinks they should ring. Yeah.

OMG that bell is the devil! Especially when the Brazilian tour groups got a hold of it. That gave them a rhythm to sing their national anthem. Anyway its a damn shame the current condition of the Yeti. I remember taking the first rides for the CM previews. That thing scared the bejeezus out of me. Now it is covered in a shame shroud.

Just your typical Disney thread around here lately.

The bells are good luck symbols, so that's why they're there? I don't know why there is so much hate for EE, I think it's better than Matterhorn any day and is a fun ride that needs to be fixed (just like CTX).

I don't hate EE. It's a good ride. Probably the closest they've come to a true Disney caliber ride in Florida since Kilimanjaro.

But it was hyped to a level it wasn't designed to, has very big, glaring faults that keep it from greatness, and it's maintenance problems drop it to being just an okay ride.

I haven't been on Matterhorn in two years, but man....it's just great from what I remember. In terms of theming, scenery, and story...yes, Everest easily trumps Matterhorn. In thrills though, I think Matterhorn trumps Everest. I'm more of a die-hard coaster fan, for me the bigger, faster, and more intense....the better, which is why, although I do enjoy Everest, I wasn't all that impressed with it. I was expecting something way more intense. The reason I say BTMR was more thrilling than Everest is because on BTMR, there are some legit moments where my stomach goes into my mouth, not that many on Everest (except for the backwards portion and MAYBE the first big fall). I compare the two because both are fairly tame, take place outside on, in and around a mountain, and both have beautiful scenery/theming. To me EE and BTMR are like cousins, with BTMR being the bigger of the two. I hope this explains things to those that were offended, and I haven't been on BTMR in several years, so maybe if I get up to MK again and am able to ride it, my opinion will change. Who knows, we'll see.

Yeah, it all depends on what someone's own definition of thrilling is. Millennium Force is 310 feet tall, and, while it does have a fantastic first drop, the rest of the ride is just... there...

"Behold! A fantastic first drop, followed by one minute and 10 seconds of mehhhhh."

Meanwhile, this ride intimidates the hell out of me:

I like the roller coasters at Disney because they're just fun. They're not intense. It's great that all demographics can ride them and enjoy them. Not to mention, they're the best transition coasters. I was terrified of coasters until I rode RnRC, then Everest, then any one I could get my hands on. The fact that they're not heart-pumping thrill rides is what I find appealing. Will adrenaline junkies be a little dismayed? Yeah, sure. Doesn't make the rides any less fun. In fact, it's probably fairly challenging to design them. If you want thrills, you just say "bigger" and "faster" and the peeps come flocking. Dancing on the line between childish and intense would take more patience. Just a guess, of course, but ever since I've been exposed to the wonderful world of roller coasters, I've appreciated Everest. Now, if they would just fix that damn yeti . . .

I know, I know.

The first drop of Millennium Force actually made me gray out. And that first over-banked turn is pretty insane, too. I know it's nowhere near an inversion, but being up that high, at that angle, with nothing but a lap bar . . . it's unsettling.

And then somehow they manage to completely ruin such a perfect start by only adding three hills (the first two offer next to no air time at all while the third one is a very tame bunny hop) and 3 more over-banked turns that are meaningless after experiencing that first one.

I haven't had a chance to ride Intimidator 305, and by all means a coaster described as "Millennium Force meets Maverick" should make it the best thing ever, but . . . I don't know if this is silly, but over-the-shoulder restraints on a coaster with no inversions just ruins it for me. It's the reason I favor Top Thrill Dragster over Kingda Ka.

Hold up. I'm getting off track here. This a thread about a mechanical yeti. And this is a reply relating to Millennium Force and Mind Bender.

Okay I'll be brief. I find Mind Bender to be one of the most thrilling coasters I've ever been on, because it made me black out once. Notice I said black out, not gray out. I can't find the stats on it anywhere, but for anyone who hasn't been on this it pulls some serious G's on the last vertical loop. I remember going into the loop . . . and then regaining consciousness at the brake-run with a bruise on my forehead. Fun times. Except not.

EDIT: Whoops. I could have sworn I read somewhere that greyout = loss of vision and blackout = loss of consciousness. Apparently they actually just mean what they sound like they should mean (how silly), and so what happened to me on Mind Bender is actually referred to as a G-LOC. Well this makes me feel loads better.

DOUBLE EDIT: OH MY GOD, 'g-measles' is a real term, and it's every bit as terrible as it sounds. Thanks, Wikipedia.

Ok... last I looked, this is an EE thread and not a "my favorite RC of all the world" thread. Too, you nitwits that complain about the Brazilians; if you live in Florida, remember, you don't pay state income tax because the Brazilians among others are paying the difference for you. As for the Yeti, stupid that it is dead, but many many many people never saw it when it WAS moving because it was so fast and dim. Argue with me that 50% of new riders never saw it when it was working.

It's not. But there isn't much to say about the yeti that hasn't already been said. So at some point someone compared Expedition Everest to Big Thunder Mountain, specifically which one they thought was more thrilling. This lead to some replies, which some might say forms a "discussion," which is sort of the general idea behind forums. I brought up Millennium Force and Mind Bender to point out that speed and height have nothing to do with a roller coaster's intensity. And I admit I got carried away with that part. But oh well. I'm afraid I'm just as enthusiastic about roller coasters as I am about themed environments. I'm so sorry I ever let that train of thought venture off even further away from a topic so exciting as talking about a mechanical yeti that doesn't move.

Don't think this was discussed recently, but on the Kevin Yee picture updates video that included the mini golf, he showed a picture of the Yeti, turned 90 degrees sideways, and he mentioned the current plan was the drill holes in the roof and move him like a marrionete (think Pinnochio) in order to have JUST his arm move up and down.

Wow.....

It's not ideal, but the solution probably won't be for a very long time, if ever. Nice to see they're at least trying something new.

Well, considering it has been broken since 2007, that happened a long time ago.

Bears repeating because people often forget just how long it has been broken. It is crazy to think of a vast majority of people who have ridden this attraction have never known the full YETI... a tear falls.
