Now for the million dollar question: Where is this house going? Hudson Gate or T-Pad?

You just know that Murdy was salivating at the chance to do this the second he saw the Rocky Road to Dublin scene

Specifically, the Sinners-themed attraction “will transport guests back in time to the popular Club Juke where they will quickly realize that nothing is as it seems when nefarious, red-eyed vampires Remmick, Bert and Joan appear with their insatiable hunger. As they attempt to evade the vampires at every turn, fans will encounter some of their favorite characters lifted straight from the film, including Sammie, Mary, Annie, Pearline and Cornbread. Caught in a deadly struggle between twins Smoke and Stack and the bloodthirsty vampires, guests must survive the night.”

“It’s been incredible to see audiences connect with Sinners in such a powerful way,” said Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, producers of Sinners and founders of Proximity Media, in a joint statement. “Now, partnering with Halloween Horror Nights gives fans the chance to step even deeper into the world of the film — to feel the music, the atmosphere and the tension all around them. Watching it come to life on this scale has been really special for all of us.”

“At Halloween Horror Nights, we push the boundaries of what a live horror experience can be,” said John Murdy, Executive Producer, Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Studios Hollywood. “Just as Ryan Coogler’s Academy Award winning film, Sinners re-invented the vampire movie, we are re-inventing the haunted house and creating new ways to scare our guests that we’ve never attempted and are thrilled to bring this amazing story to life in a truly terrifying and fully immersive way.”

No shade to the many amazing people who work out east, but I feel like this could be an instance where USH benefits from the superior pool of performers they can pull from in LA. Very curious how it's all laid out, but I'd imagine acting chops and dancing ability will be at a premium for this property.

Glad to be proven wrong.

That said, it's gonna be a bit odd for me to see this being a thing when its themes on exploitation were explicitly political. Reportedly, Jordan Peele refused a Get Out themed maze because he felt its themes wouldn't make sense to make into a maze. Us was a different story entirely.

But regardless, I can't wait. Sinners was my 2nd favorite movie of last year, first being One Battle After Another.

Really? Us is, I thought, very explicitly political and much less subtle with its metaphor than Get Out.

I disagree. Loved both movies but Us was a lot more subtle. I got the themes of Get Out right away. But it took me a few days to interpret what Us was going for. Probably a me thing.

Get Out would be messier as a haunt experience because of the POV issue. So many of the movie's "scares" rely on the specific context that they're happening to a Black American. The events of the movie are in some ways metaphorical, but otherwise closely mirror the micro(&macro)-aggressions that community faces in this country. It would be weird to simulate that for a mass, mixed audience.

I do think blackness is central to Us, but it has broader iconography (scissors and red jumpsuits) and themes (being chased by a doppelganger), that were better suited for HHN.

The event featured the Purge on the tram just last year! And Coogler, as personal as he makes his films, does not strike me as someone who would be offended if his work appeared in a theme park.

Yeah, I think this is it. Us is much better suited to the event because of its iconography, less so because of its politics. Also worth considering that movies like Texas Chainsaw are also explicitly political.

Other way around, imo. Us is basically about the "shadow self" and the relationship we have with our dark impulses. (Read a lot of Jung in college lol) I agree there is a political angle to it, but I wouldn't call it explicit in the same way as Get Out, which has a pretty clear theme about the treatment of black people, but idk the rules of this forum so prolly shouldn't get too deep there lol

Great house and for sure the headliner but if Stranger things comes, i think that house will have a bigger line

Would love to be wrong but I think Stranger things just draws in a lot of general people

Anyway, I have an excuse to watch this film now, excited to watch it

Via Murdy:
  • Facade will be in the venue, but Murdy has not disclosed where the facade will be (presumably Club Juke)
  • Rocky Road to Dublin will be in the house
  • "SAMMIE" will be in the house

I hope we actually get a FACADE facade in the house, if that makes sense…not just a hallway that goes BAM right into the house. I don’t hate that approach but I really think we need to have that big reveal moment for the Juke facade.
